Protector Gives Golfers Advantage in Retaining Driver Value

Press Release

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 3, 2004 -- Were it not for a simple trip to purchase a sports utility vehicle, Leroy Collyear, a regional broker manager for a major consumer healthcare company, may have never stumbled upon the idea. As the salesman described a new transparent polyurethane that protects them from the damages of small rocks and debris, Collyear found himself asking, ¡§Why wouldn¡¦t something like this work on golf clubs?¡¨

Two and a half years later that idea has come to fruition with Pop-Up Protector (PUP„§), a revolutionary polyurethane tape adheres to the top of golf drivers and protects against scars and scuffs that undermine the value of the investment. ¡§When I was told that my new Titleist„§ driver had lost a third of its value because of those marks, I knew there was an opportunity out here,¡¨ said Collyear.

Collyear¡¦s initial search revolved around several key criteria, namely the product had to be durable and transparent, lightweight and easily applied. PUP achieves this with a glossy, transparent, thermoplastic elastomer that is only .15mm thick and weighs .02oz. ¡§Most of the products existing in the marketplace are made of vinyl, but PUP¡¦s Teflon„§ inspired coating and transparency give it a decided edge,¡¨ said Collyear.

Though the material is flexible when applied, after the requisite eight-hour set-up, the product hardens on the club creating a surface that cannot be penetrated. And yet, PUP can be removed and reapplied many times. While the main goal of PUP is to protect the driver, the manufacturer, Cut Craft, creates additional shapes for all metal woods.

The success of PUP has been apparent as many of golf¡¦s largest retailers have purchased the product, including D/FW Edwin Watts Stores, Roger Dunn Stores in Los Angeles, select Golfsmith outlets, select On The Green stores and all Wally¡¦s Discount Stores. Cleveland Golf has purchased commercial rolls of the tape to protect their clubs during demo days. Additionally, several local golf courses have purchased the product for their rental sets.

Deco-Leco, a limited liability company formed in 2003, is located in a suburb of Dallas, Texas. The company's goal is to design, manufacture, and distribute golf products that allow the golfer to enjoy the game without worrying about the risk of depreciation.
