Amateur Golfers Sought to Take on Daly & McCord for $300,000 in Reality TV Golf Event at Pinehurst

Press Release

LOS ANGELES (July 6, 2004) - Amateur golfers who dream of going head-to-head against a PGA Tour pro for big money on national TV now have a chance to make their dreams come true on a dream course -- Pinehurst No. 2, site of the 2005 U.S. Open -- thanks to People vs. the Pros, a unique reality television event being held August 4-9, 2004.

Qualifying rounds are currently underway now through July 18 on public and private courses in the U.S. and Canada.

The second annual People vs. the Pros is looking for two amateurs to take on PGA Tour star John Daly and PGA Champions standout Gary McCord in handicapped match play for a grand prize of $100,000. The matches will be televised later this fall in prime time on ESPN.

In 2003, Las Vegas amateur Andy Rineer beat PGA Champions Tour star Lee Trevino for the $100,000 Grand Prize.

Amateurs can either play or pay for the chance to compete in People vs. the Pros. If you're an amateur golfer with an established handicap and are over 18 years of age, there are three ways to qualify:

Sign up to compete in local qualifying tournaments being held on public and private courses in the U.S. and Canada from now until July 18; find a course at http://www.pvpgolf.com/find_course.html;

Bid online for a slot on eBay at http://members.ebay.com/ws2/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=peoplevsthepros, or

Sign up for the People vs. the Pros Sweepstakes to win one of ten slots being given away at http://www.pvpgolf.com/Official_Entry_Form.html.

Using their handicap, a total of 240 amateur golfers divided equally in two age categories, 18-49 and 50 & over, will play a three-day 54-hole stroke-play competition at Pinehurst on August 6-8. The winner of each age division will advance to the August 9th Grand Prize Match, an 18-hole match play tournament at Pinehurst No. 2, site of the 2005 U.S. Open. Total purse is $300,000, with $100,000 to each winner and $50,000 to the runners-up.

The 2004 People vs. the Pros is sponsored by BASF, ProLink/ParView, Dr Pepper and ScoreCast. All qualifying and tournament details are on the event's web site, www.pvpgolf.com.
