Craig Stadler Tops Champions Field in Driving and Scoring with Nike Golf's One Black Press Release
Nike Golf's Craig Stadler led the field at the inaugural First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in scoring with a 15-under par 201, and in driving, averaging 305 yards off the tee this past weekend. It was Stadler's second consecutive win and the second week he led the field in driving since putting Nike Golf's new One Black golf ball in play.
Stadler switched to Nike Golf's One Black to begin the third round at the Jeld-Wen Tradition played outside Portland, Ore. at The Reserve Vineyard and Golf Club last week. In that tournament, the final major of the year on the Champions Tour, Stadler came from nine strokes back during weekend play and averaged more than 14 yards longer in the two rounds with the One Black to capture the victory.
In his last five rounds (the First Tee Open is a three-round tournament), Stadler is averaging more than 299 yards in driving distance, upping his season average to 286.9 yards.
The One Black is designed for maximum distance and reduced excess spin while the One Black player places a premium on low-spin and high launch conditions, and prefers a crisp feel with more penetrating trajectory.
The One Black is a three-piece/two-cover golf ball with an oversized Nd catalyzed polybutadiene core, a high repulsion dynaron ionomer inner cover and a high-velocity injected TPU outer cover. The penetrating mid-trajectory of the One Black comes from Nike's exclusive 408 Seamless dimple pattern.
Stadler, who has now captured four wins on the Champions Tour in 2004, including a Major championship with the Jeld-Wen Tradition, joins fellow Tour Staff players Stewart Cink, Stephen Ames, Rory Sabbatini, Trevor Immelman, Grace Park and Bo Van Pelt having tremendous success with Nike Golf's new Nike One Gold and Nike One Black golf balls.
Stadler's four wins on the year match his career best from 1982 when he won four times on the PGA Tour. The win also moved Stadler into first place in the Charles Schwab Cup point standings.
The Walrus was sporting the SP-Saddle from Nike Golf's Sport Performance footwear collection. He had the victory in hand with Nike Golf's Dri-FIT Tour performance glove.
