Pro Combo Utility Irons from Nike Golf Press Release
Even the most proficient golfers need a little help from time to time, particularly when a shot calls for accuracy and precision from a long iron. With this in mind, Nike Golf introduces the new Pro Combo Utility Irons, for low to mid handicappers who need that occasional edge or greater ease in working a shot, and prefer the look and feel of a traditional long iron.
Stewart Cink, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour in 2004; Tour rookie and 2003 U.S. Amateur Champion Nick Flanagan; Shingo Katayama, a two-time winner on the JPGA Tour in 2004; and David Duval, returning to form since first teeing up at the U.S. Open, have all had success with the Pro Combo Utility this year among others. Cink, who refers to his 20-degree Pro Combo Utility Iron as his 2-iron, used the hybrid to near perfection at both the Heritage Classic and the NEC Invitational.
"The new Pro Combo Utility Irons are intended for the better players who are looking for a little versatility in their shot-making," said Mike Kelly Nike Golf's Club Category Business Director. "They are the hybrid club for better players who may prefer the look of a more traditional iron."
The Pro Combo Utility Irons have 70 grams of Tungsten inserted deep in the back of the club head. This produces a lower and deeper center of gravity making them easier to hit than a traditional long iron. This is the largest weight insert to have hit the market to date and produces a marked difference in the quality of a players shot making.
The face of the club has been precision forged from custom E2000 lightweight steel and machined to tight tolerances for a feel enhancing, more consistent ball-striking surface. The custom E2000 steel provided a 25-gram weight savings in the face, which Nike Golf moved to the Tungsten plug at the back of the head.
The Pro Combo Utility Irons (SRP: $189/MAP: $159) will be available with a unique Speed Step steel shaft from True Temper; it is 30 percent lighter than traditional steel shafts for increased club head speed and greater distance. The Pro Combo Utility Irons will be available in a 2 (18-degrees/Stiff flex), 3 (20-degrees/Stiff and Regular flex), and 4-iron (22-degrees/Stiff and Regular flex) at golf shops and golf specialty stores beginning October 1, 2004.
