TaylorMade Golf Introduces r5 dual Type W Metalwoods Press Release
CARLSBAD, California (August 2004) TaylorMade Golf has taken the same technologies developed for our new r5 dual drivers and fairway woods and incorporated them into a new line of women's metalwoods, the r5 dual Type W driver and r5 dual Type W fairway woods.
r5 dual Type W Driver
Specially designed to address the needs of the average woman golfer, r5 dual Type W driver is engineered with two Trajectory Launch Control (TLC) cartridges that are pre-configured and permanently installed in the rear section of the sole. The weighting of these cartridges works in conjunction with the head shape, face angle and shaft to help the average woman golfer to alleviate a slice or promote a draw while achieving a high, long ball flight.
At address, the generous size of the Type W driver's 360cc head inspires confidence, while the shallow clubface makes it easier to launch high into the air, promoting maximum distance. Additionally, the r5 dual Type W driver is "pulled" outward near the heel, helping to position the CG closer to the heel, which facilitates proper clubhead rotation during the forwardswing to help players square the clubface at impact for straighter, more accurate results.
The r5 dual Type W driver's TLC cartridges are strategically located and weighted in order to increase the clubhead's moment of inertial (MOI), and to position the CG both low and deep, making it easy to launch the ball on a straight, high and long-carrying ball flight. The r5 dual Type W's TLC cartridges are pre-configured and permanent because TaylorMade engineers know best how to configure the cartridges to achieve a draw bias, and so have taken the worry out of it for the player.
Additionally, the clubface is aligned slightly closed, and the lightweight M.A.S. 2 50 shaft is engineered with an extra soft tip. The shaft's soft tip and light weight both encourage an aggressive clubhead release that promotes a right-to-left ball flight and added ball-speed, both of which promote added distance.
The r5 dual Type W driver also features TaylorMade's innovative Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), which delivers increased ball speed on mis-hits resulting in consistently longer, straighter drives.
The r5 dual Type W driver is available in L flex with lofts of 12° and 13.5° . Left-handed models are available.
r5 dual Type W Fairway Woods
The r5 dual Type W fairway woods, which include a 3, 5 and 7, also feature two TLC cartridges that are pre-configured and permanently installed in the rear section of the sole. These cartridges are strategically located and weighted in order to increase the clubhead's MOI, and to position the CG both low and deep, making it easy to launch the ball smoothly and cleanly off the turf on a straight, high and long-carrying ball flight.
r5 dual Type W fairway woods are constructed of titanium and equipped with TaylorMade's high-performance M.A.S. 2 Fairway shaft and TaylorMade TGT grip. The M.A.S. 2 Fairway is lightweight (50 grams) and tip-soft, both of which encourage added swing speed and ball speed for increased distance. The TGT grip is formulated from a special, high-traction compound for all-weather traction, and features an intelligent hand/finger placement guide on the surface.
r5 dual Type W fairway woods are available in L flex with lofts including 3-wood/15 degrees; 5-wood/18 degrees; 7-wood/21 degrees. Left-handed models are available.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price for all r5 dual W metalwoods is $425 per club. Availability will begin at retail on September 15, 2004.
