When you look at the weather-beaten faces of golf’s wily veterans – the Greg Normans, the Tom Kites, the John Mahaffeys – you don’t see model-like complexions. Thousands of rounds, thousands of hours being exposed to ultra-violet rays, lashing winds, and salt from the sea have, basically, turned their skin to leather. And, if you’re a regular player, then your skin, too, won’t resemble a baby’s bottom for long. Fear not, though, professional skin care products by Proderma can help – and possibly save you from skin cancer.

Proderma skin products lead the pack when it comes to high-quality skin protection for golfers. Distributed only at pro shops, the Proderma line is extensive and the benefits are wide-ranging. The line includes: SPF 30 sunscreen, windscreen, hand lotion, SPF 18 facial moisturizer, SPF 18 body lotion, SPF 30 lip balm, SPF 30 face stick, burn gel, and a unique product called moonscreen, which restores your skin while you sleep. The company also makes an outstanding bug screen and has recently launched a new sunscreen called Prism.

I admit it, other than my crusty ball cap, I’m normally an unprotected idiot when it comes to the sun. And, generally, the only moisturizer my skin sees during or after a round of golf is spilt beer. So it was with a smirk that I lathered myself with Proderma’s sunscreen before a recent round. (I also tried the bugscreen, the lip balm, the moisturizer, and the moonscreen). Naturally, being a suds-loving male, one of the fears I’ve had with using skin products are their “feminine” qualities. (Real men don’t wear lotion, etc.) However, the first thing I noted about Proderma’s products is their lack of smell. And they aren’t greasy, either. In fact, in a weird sort of way - and, no, I don’t exercise to Richard Simmons videos - it felt kind of nice putting the lotion on my skin. Best of all, though, I got a kick out of knowing that the big, bad, evil sun wasn’t going to beat me up. www.prodermaproducts.com
