TaylorMade Golf Introduces New rac OS Irons Press Release
TaylorMade Golf has introduced its new rac OS for 2005, an oversize cavityback iron that includes three key technologies that combine to deliver fantastic feel, tremendous forgiveness and an improved CG location that makes it easier to launch the ball on a high, long, straight flight.
Superior rac Technology Delivers Superior Feel
TaylorMade's patented rac technology allows TaylorMade engineers to channel impact vibration to strategic areas of the clubhead, equaling unparalleled feel. During the two years since it was introduced, TaylorMade engineers have perfected the use of rac technology, allowing us to more effectively control vibration in a golf club. Key to this superior rac performance is the shape of the cavity pad and the remarkably thin Feel Pockets. These thin Feel Pockets dispose of unwanted vibration more efficiently, resulting in an amazingly soft-yet-solid feel at impact.
Tuned Performance Cartridge Boosts Forgiveness
The OS's substantial Tuned Performance Cartridge allows TaylorMade engineers to save a massive 32 grams of weight, which is redistributed to strategic points around the perimeter of the clubhead, boosting the clubhead's MOI to deliver extreme forgiveness on off-center hits. Thanks to the Tuned Performance Cartridge, the new rac OS delivers the highest MOI of any oversized cavityback that TaylorMade has ever created, equaling maximum forgiveness. Additionally, the pocket in which the large Tuned Performance Cartridge is placed extends into the rear, lower portion of the clubface, so that the side wall of the Tuned Performance Cartridge supports the ultra-thin clubface at impact.
New Cavity Design and Ultra-Thin Clubface
Equally important to the rac OS's performance is its large, deep and uncommonly beautifully shape. This cavity design permits TaylorMade engineers to create an ultra-thin clubface that includes an extremely large unsupported area. Measuring 1.9 mm at its slimmest point, the OS clubface is far thinner than the clubfaces of most competitors' irons, which generally measure approximately 3 mm thick. Creating such a thin clubface allows TaylorMade engineers to save an additional 10 grams of critical weight. That 10 grams is removed from the front of the head and from high up in the head, and repositioned into the lower back of the iron, which helps move the CG downward and back. The OS's low, deep CG position makes it easier to launch the ball high and long.
Additional benefits of the ultra-thin clubface are increased power and enhanced rac vibration control. The OS's ultra-thin clubface represents an exceptional feat of engineering because it literally stretches the limits of the material and manufacturing methods used to make the clubhead, and the very limits of iron design.
Handsome Lines and a Powerful Look
The OS's oversize clubhead incorporates a strong top-line and slightly wider sole, which contributes to its powerful appearance and the square, substantial way that the head sets up behind the ball, which inspires confidence at address. Generous offset makes it easy to square the clubface to the ball at impact, promoting an extremely straight, accurate trajectory and helping to eliminate shots to the right (for right-handed players).
Besides its various performance attributes, the new rac OS is also designed to be great-looking, with clean, pleasing lines and a gorgeous bright-buff finish. It rivals TaylorMade's new rac LT and the new rac TP Forged as the finest-looking iron in the industry.
Shaft Options Include Proprietary T-Step Steel
rac OS shaft options include the new graphite UG65, which weighs just 65 grams, and the new steel T-Step Ultralite, which weighs just 90 grams – both are light weight to promote greater clubhead speed for added distance. The T-Step, which is a proprietary TaylorMade design, features a series of small, subtle steps visible below the grip that transition into a series of traditional steps that lead to the tip. This transition-step design helps to make the T-Step shaft extremely light for a steel offering, promoting additional clubhead speed for increased distance.
The new rac OS also comes equipped with the new, high-traction TGT grip that includes an intelligent finger-placement guide.
The new rac OS irons include 2- thru 9-iron, PW, AW, SW and LW. Manufacturer's suggested retail price for a set of eight OS irons is $736/steel, $960/graphite. Shaft flexes include S, R/steel; and S, R, M, L/graphite. Available in right- and left-handed models. Women's model available. Availability at retail begins in November, 2004.
