TaylorMade Golf Introduces New rac LT Irons Press Release
TaylorMade has introduced its new rac LT iron, an entirely new high-performance golf club that combines the looks, size, low trajectory and workability of a forged iron with the forgiving, easy-to-launch qualities of an oversized cavityback. The new rac LT offers a dazzling combination of looks and performance never before possible in this category of iron. It's undeniably the finest iron of its type that TaylorMade has ever engineered.
The new LT delivers increased moment of inertia (MOI), increased power and an improved CG location that makes it easier to launch the ball while retaining a lower, easy-to-control ball flight. This iron is intended for players who generate from 85 to 115 miles per hour of clubhead speed with a driver that prefer the look and workability of a forged blade, but who require additional forgiveness and confidence.
Superior rac Technology Delivers Superior Feel
Chief among the LT's advanced performance technologies is a new, superior application of TaylorMade's patented rac technology, which allows TaylorMade engineers to direct impact vibration to strategic areas of the clubhead to deliver unparalleled feel. In the two years since it was introduced, TaylorMade engineers have perfected the use of
rac technology, resulting in more effective vibration control and the achievement of a targeted feel.
Key to this superior rac performance are the LT's extremely thin Feel Pockets and the shape and depth of the cavity pad. While the Feel Pockets measure a mere 2 millimeters thick, the cavity pad ranges in thickness from 2.8 to 3.5 millimeters. Together, the ultra-thin Feel Pockets and reinforcing cavity pad work in concert to dispose of unwanted vibration, promoting an amazingly soft-yet-solid feel at impact that's preferred by better players.
Tuned Performance Cartridge Boosts Forgiveness
The LT also incorporates a new Tuned Performance Cartridge that allows TaylorMade engineers to save 12 grams of weight, which is taken from the middle of the club and redistributed to key areas in the perimeter of the clubhead, boosting MOI for added forgiveness. In fact, the new rac LT boasts the highest MOI for this type of iron than any other iron of this type that TaylorMade has ever created. Boosting the MOI to such heights in a clubhead this relatively small is a significant engineering achievement. Additionally, the LT's Tuned Performance Cartridge is positioned so that it makes contact with the inner side of the clubface, so that the cartridge lends support to the clubface.
New Cavity Design and Thin Clubface
The new LT's look is characterized by its beautifully shaped cavity that makes an immediate and positive first impression. This modern cavity shape and design was conceived with the input of tour professionals, and contributes crucially to this iron's outstanding performance. Specifically, this advanced cavity design allows TaylorMade engineers to make a thinner clubface that measures 2 millimeters thick at its thinnest point, compared to the 3 millimeter average thickness of competitor's clubfaces. The LT's thin clubface allows TaylorMade engineers to save 11 grams of weight, which is redistributed into the lower, rear portion of the clubhead.
Relocating those saved 11 grams in this manner allows TaylorMade engineers to improve the CG location to make it easier to launch the ball in the air without sacrificing the LT's lower, controllable trajectory and workability. Another benefit of the LT's extra-thin clubface is that it increases initial velocity for greater ball speed, which promotes added distance.
Additionally, the LT's reduced offset and thin, eye-pleasing topline encourage visual confidence, while the tour-proven sole and leading edge are engineered to react beautifully with the turf to deliver crisp, clean, ball-to-club contact.
Shaft Options Include Proprietary T-Step Pro
Shaft options include the new graphite LT85, which weighs 85 grams, and new T-Step Pro 110-gram steel. Both are tip-firm, to promote a lower trajectory, and both deliver tour-caliber playability. The T-Step, which is a proprietary TaylorMade design, is light weight and promotes tour-proven accuracy and ball flight.
The new rac LT also comes equipped with the new, high-traction TGN grip that includes an intelligent finger-placement guide.
The new rac LT irons include 2- thru 9-iron, PW, AW and SW. Manufacturer's suggested retail price for a set of eight LT irons is $900/steel, $1,100/graphite. Shaft flexes include R, S and X. Available in right- and left-handed models. Availability at retail begins in November, 2004.
