Singh Scores 9th Victory of Year, Surpasses $10 Million Mark with Titleist

Press Release

Titleist Pro V1x loyalist Vijay Singh fired four consecutive rounds in the 60s en route to a Chrysler Championship record 18-under 266. The 5-stroke victory marked Singh’s PGA Tour-leading 9th win of the year, the 24th of his illustrious PGA Tour career, and 46th worldwide as a professional.

Singh is just the sixth player in PGA Tour history to win at least nine events in one season. In addition to the Chrysler Championship, Singh has captured the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Shell Houston Open, HP Classic of New Orleans, Buick Open, PGA Championship, Deutsche Bank Championship, Bell Canadian Open and 84 Lumber Classic.

The $900,000 paycheck for winning the Chrysler Championship elevates Singh’s 2004 earnings to $10,725,166, becoming the PGA Tour’s first $10-million dollar man and the most money ever earned in one season on the PGA TOUR.

Titleist Pro V1x player Tom Carter fired a career-low 6-under 65 during Saturday’s third round at the Chrysler Championship. Carter tied the tournament’s low third round total recorded by another Vijay Singh in 2003. Carter’s previous career low had been a 66, which he fashioned during the second rounds of the 2003 Chrysler Classic of Greensboro, 2004 Buick Invitational and 2004 FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Titleist Pro V1x player Tommy Armour III set the second-round Chrysler Championship scoring record with a 7-under-par 64, one better than the previous mark of 65 held by three players. Armour finished in a tie for 2nd marking his best finish of the year.

Jeff Sluman relied upon the Titleist Pro V1 golf ball to fire a course-record 9-under 62 to take a two-stroke lead after round one of the Chrysler Championship. The 62 matches Sluman’s career-low round, which he had done three times previously.

Titleist golf ball players have now won 35 of the 47 events on 2004 PGA Tour, seven times more than the nearest competitor with 5.

PGA European Tour: It was an all-Titleist Pro V1x playoff at the season-ending Volvo Masters where the two players were tied after 72 holes with 7-under par 277s. Both players trailed the overnight leader by three shots before shooting final round 1-under par 70s at Valderrama. The win advanced Titleist's golf ball victory count on the PGA European Tour to 23, more than four times the nearest competitor with 5.

Nationwide Tour: Nick Watney relied upon the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball and a full bag of Titleist golf clubs, including a Titleist Titanium 983K driver, 980F fairway metal, Forged 704.CB irons, Vokey Design wedges and Scotty Cameron putter, to capture the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship. Watney fired a final round 3-under par 69 to finish at 15-under 273, three strokes clear of runner-up and fellow Pro V1x loyalist Brett Wetterich. The win marked Watney's fourth top-10 finish over the last five starts and helped him secure one of the 20 PGA Tour Cards for the 2005 awarded following the event.

Japan Tour: Titleist Pro V1x player Makoto Inoue emerged from Monday Qualifying at the ABC Championship to win his first career Japan Tour title, securing his card for the next two seasons. Inoue earned his position in the field after topping the Monday Qualifier with a score of 6-under 66. He continued with scorching rounds of 69-67-66-71 during the event for a winning score of 15-under. Tied for second one stroke back was Pro V1x player Toru Suzuki. Titleist players have won 14 of the 24 events on the 2004 Japan Tour, more than four times the nearest competitor with 3.

Asian Tour: One week after winning his first career Asian Tour title, Terry Pilkadaris captured the Sanya Open for his second consecutive victory. Pilkadaris, who took a three shot lead into the final round, topped fellowTitleist Pro V1 player American Clay Devers on the 2nd hole of a sudden death playoff. Devers forced the playoff after shooting a final round 7-under 65. Both players finished with a 270 total.
