Sonartec Primed to Impact Outcome of Tour Championship

Press Release

While for most people, the month of November marks the start of the holidays and the winter season, for Tour Professionals it marks the end of their season, culminating in the Tour Championship. For the most part, the 2004 Tour Championship is a compilation of the usual start-studded roster; but there are three newcomers who have rapidly ascended among the upper-echelon of players with impressive 2004 campaigns.

None of these players has been with the tour for more than three years, and two of them are among the leading choices for Tour Rookie of the Year. Although each of these players earned notoriety for different reasons and plays a different game, the trio does share a pair of common bonds. First; Sonartec fairway woods have earned prominent roles in their respective arsenals. Second; none of these three players is being paid to use these clubs.

One of the rookies hardly needs an introduction as he currently ranks tenth on the Tour money list. He has posted 3 Top-10 finishes, 2 wins and finished in the money in an impressive 18 tournaments in his initial season on Tour. He is also widely considered the run-away winner in the Rookie of the Year competition. In his biggest win of the year, this red-hot rookie edged out the world's #2 ranked player in a four-hole playoff format to win the British Open; ultimately winning the championship, thanks primarily to the incredible chip he carved out with the Sonartec "Md" hybrid club. This club was later recognized as the "Most Valuable Club" of the British Open.

The other two players have enjoyed equally impressive campaigns in 2004. Between them, they share two wins, eight Top-10 finishes, and have finished in the money 45 times this season. Both of these players have made extensive use of the Sonartec SS-03 3-wood en route to finishing among the Top-20 on the money list in 2004.

"Sonartec is honored by the fact that some of the top young players in the game continue to rely upon our clubs in even the highest profile tournaments," said Sonartec Vice President Jim Uno. "We wish each player the best of luck this week, and look forward to seeing Sonartec clubs make an impact on Championship Sunday."

A Carlsbad, California-based fairway wood specialist, Sonartec has been a major contributor in two of the previous four British Open Championships (2001, 2004). The classic lines and astounding performance inherent in all Sonartec products have earned the small, yet burgeoning company a cult-like following among Tour Professionals. Despite paying only three players to wield their clubs in tournament play, more than 150 PGA Tour Professionals have put Sonartec clubs in play in 2004; making them the third most frequently played fairway woods on Tour.
