Without a doubt, golf in the 21st century is hip. Styles are flashy, the game isn’t nearly as stuffy, and manufacturers spend millions marketing to the hoards of Gen-Xers who are assaulting the links. Recently, one company, Bite, revolutionized the golf footwear industry by introducing golf sandals. Gen-Xers – and all those wishing to get their toes tanned during a round of golf – have noticed.
Based in Redmond, Washington, Bite recently introduced their new X-Golf OS sandal – an orthotically advanced sandal that one-ups the competition in this fully engaged market segment. Last week, thanks to a couple of rounds with these great looking sandals, I not only tanned my toes, but found out that golf sandals – specifically the X-Golf OS – offer great support and are an option many “hipsters” should consider.
Why? The X-Golf OS sandal features a patented toe guard for protection, neoprene lining that is exceptionally comfortable, a wide base for stability, a cushioned footbed for comfort, X-Cross strapping for added stability, and more.
Personally, I found the sandals to be more than adequate in supplying a firm platform to swing off. The width of the sandals combined with Bite’s great traction system truly made for exceptional grip. In addition, if the beer cart would not have come around so often, walking 36 holes with them would have been a breeze.
However, there was one minor problem – but likely one that would be limited to people who, like me, go for the cheap seats with every swing. That is, I noticed some minor discomfort on the follow through (especially on extra aggressive swings) when my right toe wanted to scrape the ground (every now and then I slide a bit with that foot). Of course, it’s likely this would be a complete non-issue for sober swingers. The X-Golf OS Sandals retail for $119.00. www.bitegolf.com.
