Team England posted a thrilling victory this past Sunday with an 8-under final round to overcome Team Spain's one-shot lead at the start of the play. One member of the winning twosome used his Sonartec SS-1.5 fairway wood in leading his team to victory. The winning team posted a total score of 257 during the four-day event; never posting a score higher than the 3-under par 68 they accumulated on Saturday.
The English duo was able to successfully play off of one-another's strengths in piecing together a late-round surge to capture the win. Thanks to a combination of sizzling, accurate iron play and red-hot putting, the eventual champions would sink nine birdie putts on their way to victory. The English victory was put on ice when the Spanish tandem bogeyed the par-5 16th after their second shot ended up in the water.
The win marked Sonartec's 17th victory on the professional circuit in 2004. According to the Darrell Survey, an industry reporting agency that audits golf equipment among professional golfers, Sonartec has had more than 1200 clubs in play by over 200 PGA Tour Players in 2004, making them the third most-played fairway woods on the PGA Tour surpassing the fourth ranked manufacturer by 506 clubs.
The Carlsbad, California-based company has developed a cult-like following on the PGA Tour during the previous four years with its fairway woods and hybrid transition clubs. Known for its Driving Cavity™ technology, which raises the center of gravity and moves it toward the rear of the club head, Sonartec clubs produce a hotter, more penetrating ball flight than all other fairway woods. The result is an increase in distance and accuracy; as well as a wider, more forgiving sweet spot.
