TaylorMade Dominates 2004 PGA Tour Season
Press Release
Posted 2004-12-12
In the year in which TaylorMade Golf celebrated its 25th year in business, it's fitting that the company also achieved several remarkable accomplishments that further cemented its position as the leader in metalwoods. First and foremost among them was the introduction of the r7 quad driver, the most successful metalwood launch in the company's history. A remarkable feat, given that TaylorMade cultivated the modern metalwood and has, during the past quarter-century, created landmark clubs like the Burner, Raylor, Burner Bubble, 300 Series and R500 Series. In fact, the r7 quad spearheaded another year of TaylorMade dominance on the PGA Tour. Within weeks of its introduction at the 2004 MCI Heritage, the r7 quad became the No. 1 driver model on the PGA Tour. That's just one of the many tour successes that TaylorMade enjoyed in 2004.
Driver Domination / PGA TOUR
- TaylorMade drivers ranked No. 1 at every PGA Tour event in 2004, extending TaylorMade's streak to 153 consecutive events (dating back to 2001) at No. 1.*
- Throughout 2004, the average margin of victory for TaylorMade drivers at PGA Tour events was 17.
- The r7 quad debuted on the PGA Tour at the 2004 MCI Heritage when one player, Retief Goosen, put it into play. Just four weeks later, at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, 26 players used the r7 quad, making it the No. 1 driver model at the event.
- More PGA Tour events in 2004 were won by players using the r7 quad – 14 -- than any other driver model. This is the third consecutive year in which TaylorMade drivers were No. 1 in PGA Tour victories.*
- Of the 48 PGA Tour events held in 2004, 50% were won by players using a TaylorMade driver. The nearest competitor accounted for 19%.
- Out of the 33 PGA Tour events that the r7 quad was put into play (starting with the MCI Heritage), it ranked as the No. 1 driver model in 28.*

- Soon after putting the r7 quad into play, Sergio Garcia led the EDS Byron Nelson Championship in total driving and won the event, breaking a two-year winless slump. Four weeks later, he won the Buick Classic, again with the r7 quad in his bag.
- The No. 1-ranked player in the world used a TaylorMade R510TP to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Shell Houston Open and HP Classic of New Orleans. After switching to the r7 quad, he won six more times: the Buick Open, PGA Championship, Deutsche Bank Championship, Bell Canadian Open, 84 Lumber Classic and Chrysler Championship.
