TaylorMade Introduces rac Satin Wedge

Press Release

CARLSBAD, Calif. (December 13, 2004) –TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company has introduced a new wedge called rac Satin, so-named because of its unplated, satin finish. Preferred by many tour pros, the satin finish offers less glare compared to chrome-plated or polished finishes.

Besides the rac Satin, TaylorMade offers two additional rac wedge models: the chrome-plated rac Chrome and the unplated rac Black, which undergoes a three-step oxidation process to produce a handsome black finish.

Like the rac Chrome and rac Black, the rac Satin incorporates TaylorMade's proprietary rac Technology and Dual-Draft Grooves, and features a classic, teardrop shape.

Key to the rac Satin's outstanding control are TaylorMade's Dual-Draft Grooves, which are produced via a painstaking production process. First, the clubface is milled flat, which is essential to creating grooves with perfectly shaped edges. Next, each Dual-Draft Groove is individually milled into the face, resulting in grooves that are extremely precise and extremely consistent from one to the next. The shape, width, depth, edge radii and spacing of Dual-Draft Grooves work together to deliver a higher rate of backspin with dramatic consistency. And because the rac Satin is unplated, the grooves boast purer edges which promote added spin, equaling increased control.

TaylorMade's rac Technology incorporates two distinctive Feel Pockets in the back of the clubhead; these Feel Pockets exist to channel impact energy to strategic areas of the head, enhancing the kind of soft-yet-solid feel at impact that golfers love.

"The rac Satin has already proven itself on the PGA TOUR, where it's become a favorite among tour professionals," says Jose Miraflor, product manager for wedges. "Because of its popularity among pros, we decided to make it available to the public. It's a great addition to our wedge line."

Numerous tour pros have used rac Satin wedges to win on the PGA Tour, including Retief Goosen, who relied heavily on his 60° rac Satin around the greens at Shinnecock Hills en route to victory at this year's United States Open. Other players who are either using or have used rac Satin wedges include Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke, Fred Funk, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Paul McGinley.

TaylorMade's rac Satin wedge is available in right-handed 52° loft / 08° bounce, 54/10, 56/12, 56/14, 58/08 and 60/07; left-handed 52/08, 56/12, 60/07. Custom versions that feature more bounce are also available in right-handed 54/12, 58/12 and 60/12. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for a rac Satin wedge is $132.
