Congratulations to Steve Backart, of Glen Ellyn, IL U.S.A. Steve is the winner of a brand new, TaylorMade r7 Quad driver in our fall giveaway. Steve was one of several thousand entrants in our contest and has the distinction of being one of the great contributors that are helping to build this site on a daily basis. Thanks to Steve and to all of you as well for your continued support. Now, let's find out a little about our winner!

Steve Backart, 45, of Glen Ellyn, IL calls the Village Links of Glen Ellyn his home course. Vice President of a beverage manufacturer, Steve regularly joins his hometown buddies early on Saturdays (in season) for a quick 18. During the Summer months he plays 9 holes as often as possible during the week, starting at sunrise and still arriving in the office by 8:00 a.m. As with many Chicago-area golfers, walking is Steve's preferred mode of course transportation. His extensive business travel allows him to play some well-known tracks nationally.

Golf was taken up later in life by Steve (who grew up on the water in Connecticut, with a love for fishing and other watersports). By enlisting local PGA instruction in 2004, Steve corrected some fundamental swing flaws and has improved his handicap to a 15. His goal is to drop to single digits in 2005 through continued instruction, practice and frequent early-morning play.

Steve's best moment was April 20, 2002. He achieved a "hole in one" on the Village Links of Glen Ellyn's Par 3 8th hole. The power of positive thinking must have been at work as he jokingly called the shot to his golfing buddies beforehand.

Steve enjoys golfing with friends, his wife and children. His favorite courses include the Chicago Golf Club (great tradition and history), and a few courses in out West. New Mexico is his prized state for golf values such as Paa-Ko Ridge (shown here). Now that his game is improving, he looks forward to playing Pine Valley someday (which just may happen as a relative has been a long-time member).

Congratulations once again Steve, from all of us at Golf Gear Review. And to all of you who entered, and helped to continue to build one of the largest resources of unbiased golf equipment opinions on the net we sincerely extend our thanks.
