MacGregor Golf Introduces Its New Mactec NVG Driver

Posted 2005-02-12

Albany, GA - MacGregor Golf today announced the introduction of its new MACTEC NVG driver, the world's first dual Beta Titanium driver. The MACTEC NVG driver leverages revolutionary technologies in clubhead construction, weighting system and shaft design, offering golfers the most advanced technologies available and a substantial increase in power, forgiveness and accuracy, regardless of skill level.

"We are dedicated to producing easy-to-hit high performance golf equipment through the use of the world's most advanced and exclusive technologies, and MACTEC delivers on that promise," commented Barry Schneider, owner and CEO of MacGregor Golf. "With the MACTEC NVG driver, golfers will generate greater swing-speed from their swing, resulting in higher, longer drives. MACTEC is all about technology making the game easier and more fun."

The MACTEC NVG driver features a never-before-used Beta Titanium crown insert technology to produce the World's first dual Beta Titanium clubhead (with its TVC Beta Titanium face insert). MacGregor's exclusive silver brazing technology allows for an ultra-thin (.4mm) 15-3-3-3 Beta Titanium crown insert into a 6-4 Titanium body, which effectively shifts weight from the crown to the sole. In summary, technology that dramatically lowers the center of gravity (CG), for higher launch, less spin and explosive distance.

Each loft of the MACTEC NVG driver provides distinctive properties for optimal launch, spin and bias. A 15-3 Beta Titanium face insert is used in the 7.5 and 8.5 degree lofts for the hottest ball response and lowest spin. The result is increased hang time, more roll and maximum total distance. A high-elongation TVC Beta Titanium face insert is used in the 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degree lofts for high rebound characteristics across the entire face, producing the hottest ball response across the largest area for explosive distance, even on off-center hits. Face angles range from 1.5 degrees open on the 7.5 degree loft, to square on the 9.5 degree loft, and 1.5 degrees closed on the 11.5 degree loft.

The MACTEC NVG deploys a Tungsten weighting system for optimal launch, draw bias and forgiveness characteristics. Four Tungsten weights with 19 total grams are strategically placed in the heel and toe. 8 and 6 gram Tungsten weights in the heel produce a low, deep CG providing optimal launch and draw bias properties. Two 2.5 gram Tungsten weights - one each in the extreme heel and toe - enhance Moment Of Inertia (MOI) for more clubhead stability and accuracy.

MacGregor's exclusive Quadra-Action#8482; shaft, a proprietary three-flex-point, four-zone shaft maximizes the performance properties of the MACTEC driver by generating greater swing-speed from a golfer's normal swing. Varied shaft thickness, stiffness and strand orientation in four distinct regions maximize clubhead speed and control. The stiffer sections store energy and the softer sections generate and release energy to dramatically increase swing-speed through the contact zone. The result is greater distance and more accuracy. In controlled robotic testing the combination of MACTEC's Quadra-Action shaft and clubhead consistently added 3 mph at swing-speeds between 80 and 90 mph.

The MACTEC NVG driver is available in men's 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degree lofts and Quadra-Action shaft flexes of regular, stiff, stiff plus, extra stiff and senior. Women golfers are offered 11 and 13 degree lofts and Quadra-Action women's flex. Left-handed models are available in men's 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts.

The MACTEC NVG driver carries a suggested retail price of $449.99 and is available at leading off-course retailers and green grass pro shops. On Tour, the MACTEC NVG is played by MacGregor staff player Greg Norman.
