There are a number of things that make me feel like a man. Looking at old photos of me in tight shorts, a muscle shirt, and standing beside my ’84 Chevette is not one of them. However, when I throw a wind-piercing “dart” into the back of the green and watch it suck back to a front hole location, I definitely get some “manly” vibes going. There is one wedge that stands out in terms of its ability to produce the controlled “spinner” – the Eidolon Wedge.
Eidolon Golf, based in Texas, claims to have made the most significant improvement in the wedge market in the last 40 years. This classic-looking wedge has two standout features that, in many people’s minds (including mine), make it one of the best – if not the best - wedge on the market. First, the face on the Eidolon wedge features tiny, individually milled grooves that produce maximum legal spin. Second, the patented V-Sole technology provides optimum versatility with two distinct bounce angles on the sole. (Ever heard of guys grinding the soles of their wedges to produce a better bounce angle? In a nutshell, that’s what Eidolon does for you. Professionally. Without you having to grind the skin off your knuckles yourself).
I have been playing an Eidolon wedge for a few weeks now and, without a doubt, this club has improved my wedge game. I’m hitting shots that are stopping, sucking, whining, whirring, purring, pouncing, and, checking. In short, this club gives me superior spin and great control. I’ve also noticed that on shorter shots - lobs and pitches - the ball wants to stop quicker than with my old wedges.
Is Eidolon Golf going to take a major chunk of the wedge market from Titleist and Cleveland? Time will tell. But, if its “manly” characteristics are any indication, those “girls” better watch out. www.eidolongolf.com. Eidolon wedges retail for $129.00.
