TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staff Professional Peter Lonard Wins MCI Heritage

Press Release

Posted 2005-04-21

After flirting with a 59 in the opening round, TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staff professional Peter Lonard survived an intense final-round duel with fellow TaylorMade Tour Staffer Darren Clarke to win the MCI Heritage. Though Lonard has won nine times internationally, it was his first PGA Tour victory.

Lonard, 37, ranked No. 1 in birdies with 23 in 72 holes on the difficult Harbour Town layout. Using TaylorMade rac MB forged irons he hit 66.7% of his greens in regulation, tying for No. 1 in that category.** Also in Lonard's bag: TaylorMade r7 quad ht driver, TaylorMade V Steel 3-wood, TaylorMade OS 2-iron and TaylorMade rac wedges. He also wore adidas footwear and apparel.

Lonard became the third first time winner this year on the PGA Tour, joining fellow Aussie and TaylorMade Tour Staff pro Geoff Ogilvy (Chrysler Classic of Tucson).

The MCI Heritage marked the 172nd consecutive PGA Tour event at which TaylorMade ranked as the No. 1 driver,* dating back to August 2001. A total of 53 TaylorMade drivers were put into play, 36 of which were r7 quads. Meaning there were more r7 quads in play than total drivers by the No. 2 brand, which had 33 drivers in play.

The r7 quad was also used to win the European Tour's Open de España yesterday. Like Lonard, the winner in Europe used the r7 quad and TaylorMade rac irons. The victories at the MCI Heritage and Open de España mark the 12th and 13th worldwide wins for the r7 quad in 2005, and 42nd and 43rd since the club debuted on the PGA Tour in April 2004.

"We congratulate Peter on his first PGA Tour win," said Chuck Presto, vice president of sports marketing for TaylorMade-adidas. "After plenty of international success, Peter has worked hard to break through on the PGA Tour with a victory; we're extremely pleased that TaylorMade equipment and adidas Golf footwear and apparel played a part in his success."

* No. 1 claim based on Darrell Survey brand count statistics at 172 consecutive PGA Tour events in which TaylorMade-branded drivers have ranked No. 1 or tied for No. 1. Other No. 1 claims based on Darrell Survey brand count statistics, as applicable.
