Jose Maria Olazabal Forces Playoff at Buick Invitational

Press Release

Posted 2006-02-06

MacGregor Golf Staff Professional Jose Maria Olazabal made a dramatic run to the front of the field in the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines on Sunday before eventually finishing second after a three-way playoff with Tiger Woods and Nathan Green. Olazabal birdied the par-5 18th and final hole in regulation play to take the lead, rocketing a drive more than 320 yards, followed by a fairway wood onto the green and two putting from 36 feet for the birdie. He shot a final round 69, which was the second best round of the day to finish with a 10 under par 278 for the tournament.

Olazabal uses MacGregor’s V-FOIL fairway woods, M675 forged muscleback irons, MacGregor forged wedges and a Bobby Grace M2 blade putter. Although admittedly rusty in his opening round, the two-time Masters champion shot a blistering 8-under-par 64 in the second round of play to move into contention.

MacGregor Golf Staff Professional Aaron Baddeley made his second consecutive cut this season and tied for fourth in total pars, finishing the tournament at six over par.

Ten Bobby Grace putters were in play at the Buick Invitational with two finishing in the top ten. Bobby Grace putters by MacGregor are the number one putter on the tour with no sponsorship dollars in play, earning 22 worldwide professional tournament victories and more than $39 million in tournament winnings in the past two seasons.
