Posted 2006-02-28

Graphite Design International (“GDI”) — maker of the YS-6, the No.1 graphite driver shaft model on the PGA TOUR for three straight years, according to the Darrell Survey — today announces that its YS-7 shaft was the No. 1 played wood shaft model at the PGA TOUR’s Nissan Open.

The YS-7, now the winner of back-to-back wood shaft model counts on the PGA TOUR, is part of GDI’s YS family of shafts, which was recently expanded with the introduction of the YS Type II Series.

In addition to winning the wood shaft model count, three players finishing in the top-seven used GDI shafts in their drivers and fairway woods.

“We are proud to win the graphite wood shaft model count and help these three players finish in the top-seven at the Nissan Open,” said Akio Karashima, CEO of GDI. “These results further validate that our distance- and accuracy-improving technology is relied upon by professionals, yet it can help recreational golfers improve their scores, too.”

Last year, GDI shafts were used by 18 winners on the PGA TOUR and 42 winners worldwide, helping them amass more than $75 million in earnings. They were also played by PGA TOUR leaders in Total Driving (distance plus accuracy), five of the top-10 players in Driving Accuracy Percentage, four of the top-10 money winners, and top-10 players in the World Golf Rankings.

On the Japan PGA TOUR in 2005, GDI shafts were victorious 16 times and were the most-played brand for a staggering 106 straight tournaments, an unprecedented streak dating back to 2002.

In addition to the Pershing Series, available later this year, GDI’s new products for 2006 include the YS Type II Series and Purple Ice Series shafts. They made their official debut in January at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla.
