Callaway Golf Equipment is Winners' Choice on Four Tours; Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam Makes History at the Colonial Press Release
Callaway Golf
Company (NYSE: ELY) clubs and balls were used by the champions on four
of the six major professional tours last week. The Company was also
front and center during the biggest story of the golf season --
Callaway Golf Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam's historic
appearance on the PGA Tour.
Sorenstam competed at the Bank of America Colonial, the first
woman in 58 years to play in a PGA Tour event. She missed the 36-hole
cut, but won the hearts of golf fans around the world with her
memorable play at the event. Sorenstam used the Company's HX(R) Red
golf ball and 11 Callaway Golf(R) clubs at the Bank of America
Colonial, including a Great Big Bertha(R) II Pro Series Titanium
Driver, a Big Bertha Steelhead(TM) III 7-wood, Steelhead X-14(R) Irons
and an Odyssey White Hot(R) 2-Ball Putter.
Odyssey Golf was also the putter brand of choice for the winner of
the Bank of America Colonial, who used an Odyssey Dual Force(R) Rossie
1 Putter to win by six strokes -- setting a tournament scoring record
of 19-under-par 261 in the process.
The winners on two other U.S. tours last week also used Callaway
Golf equipment. Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional Morris Hatalsky
won the inaugural Columbus Southern Open using the HX Red golf ball.
The two-time senior winner also used an Odyssey White Hot 2 Putter in
his victory. In all, eight of the top 11 finishers at the Champions
Tour event used Odyssey Putters. On the LPGA Tour, the winner of the
LPGA Corning Classic used an Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball Putter to card a
final-round 62 en route to the 29th victory of her hall-of-fame
career. Three of the top five finishers at the event used Odyssey
Putters.
Callaway Golf was also victorious at one of the PGA European
Tour's most prestigious events. Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professional
Ignacio Garrido birdied the first playoff hole to win the Volvo PGA
Championship using the HX Red golf ball. The champion also used a
Great Big Bertha II Titanium Driver and a Big Bertha Steelhead III
Strong 3-wood to claim his second European title. Five of the top
eight finishers at the event used Great Big Bertha II Titanium
Drivers, which have now been used to win nine times across the world's
six major professional tours combined this season.
