Juli Inkster Trusts Titleist Pro V1 for 2nd Career U.S. Women’s Open Championship. Tying the record for the lowest final round by a champion, Juli Inkster created fireworks over the 4th of July holiday weekend by firing a 4-under par 66 to win her second U.S. Women's Open by two strokes. It marked the second historic victory at Prairie Dunes for Inkster, where 22 years ago she captured the first of her three consecutive U.S. Women’s Amateur championships trusting Titleist. The win was the second of the year for Inkster and her seventh career major on the LPGA Tour.
Additional wins by Tom Jenkins on the Senior PGA Tour and Cliff Kresge on the buy.com Tour increased Titleist's victory count on the worldwide professional tours to 81, more than all other golf balls combined.
Jenkins relied upon the Pro V1 to earn his second Canada Senior Open title in three years, as well as his fourth consecutive top four finish in the event. Kresge, who relies upon the new Titleist Pro V1 Star, earned his second victory of the year by winning a four-player playoff at the Hershey Open. Kresge moved to the top of the buy.com Tour money list with the victory and joins Pro V1 loyalist Patrick Moore as the two buy.com Tour players with multiple wins in 2002. A player with three victories in the same season earns an immediate "battlefield promotion" to the PGA Tour.
TITLEIST TOUR NOTES FOR WEEK ENDING JULY 7, 2002
