If you’ve been to one of those testosterone-laced competitions where the competitors - a.k.a. professional longdrivers - foam at the mouth, then try to knock golf balls to kingdom come, then you’ve probably heard of Bang golf clubs. As one of the equipment leaders in the world of longdrivedom, it’s no surprise that Bang Golf is the maker of the world’s biggest driver – the 600cc Great Big Bang. And if you can’t hit this club, then for the love of all things sanctified and holy, take up lawn bowling or Bingo.
In case you’re wondering, 600ccs is indeed about the size of a small child. Of course, this baby isn’t full of breast milk, it’s brimming with beta titanium and enough power potential to get you busting it like you’ve never busted it before.
I took the Great Big Bang to the driving range a couple of nights ago and, well, quite enjoyed it. Naturally, my first task was trying to find a tee long enough to fit the enormity of this weapon. After nearly getting kicked off the premises for hitting a few off a light post, I managed to scrounge up a couple of four-inch tees and started airing it.
It took a few passes to get used to the Great Big Bang, but, as it turned out, I found a bit of a groove with this club and lashed a few to the outer reaches of the range. After the obligatory chuckles when first fixing your eyes on it, one soon realizes that the Great Big Bang is quite hittable – and is a great conversation piece to boot. While traditionalists wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole, those looking for an unmissable experience should consider feeding this ‘baby’ some surlyn.
