Tom Watson Uses AccuFLEX Golf's "ICON v.2" To Earn 2003 Senior British Open Championship at Turnberry, Scotland Press Release
AccuFLEX Golf (www.accuflexgolf.com) proudly announces that its ICON v.2 shaft was in the driver used by Tom Watson as he
won the 2003 Senior British Open Championship on Sunday. Watson has had the
ICON v.2 in a stiff flex in his driver since March and, as the world knows,
has been playing incredible golf through the late spring and into the
summer. Watson's round of 64 yesterday enabled him to make a Sunday charge
from three shots back that reminded everyone of the Watson of old. It seemed
inevitable that the five-time British Open champ would take the title at
Turnberry, the site of his historic British Open Championship in 1977. When
Tom crushed a 325-yard ICON v.2 powered drive on the 2nd playoff hole, his
par was practically assured and the 2003 Senior British Open championship
was his. Tom Watson's incredible victory was the first major championship
win for AccuFLEX Golf.
"We are so proud that Tom Watson earned us our first major victory out on
Tour", AccuFLEX president Jody Baucom began. We were honored the first time
we learned that the legendary Tom Watson had put our shaft in play back in
March and I was thrilled to personally witness him hit our shaft at The
Masters earlier this year. While we have greatly admired and respected him
as a golfing legend, our respect and admiration for Mr. Watson has grown as
we have watched how he has stepped up and taught all of us about the
struggles of his longtime caddy Bruce Edwards as he fights an uphill battle
against ALS. That he is now working to be a leader in the search for a cure
to this disease makes Mr. Watson's victory all the more deserving. We at
AccuFLEX are fortunate to be associated with such a wonderful man and we
extend our heartfelt congratulations to him on his 2003 Senior British Open
victory. It could not be more deserved."
Tom Watson's stellar 2003 season is reflected by his high finishes and
impressive performances at this year's major and senior major championships.
Mr. Watson's amazing performance, which the AccuFLEX ICON v.2 has been a
part of since mid-March, is also reflected by his ranking in the following
Champions Tour 2003 statistical categories:
1st -- Scoring Average (69.03)
1st -- Eagles Scored (12)
1st -- Eagles (holes per) (55.5)
