Callaway Golf
(NYSE: ELY) Ball Staff Professional Lian-Wei Zhang used the HX(R) Blue
golf ball to achieve two lofty goals this past week. Not only did he
become the first Chinese golfer to win a PGA European Tour event, but
he also became the first golfer to beat Ernie Els in 2003. Zhang
overcame a two-shot deficit in the final round to rally past Els and
win the Caltex Masters in Singapore.
Zhang faced long odds as he stood on the final tee one stroke
behind Els, his playing partner. Els had won his last three events,
including the first two PGA Tour events of this year. But Zhang bombed
an aggressive drive and hit a 9-iron approach to four feet with his HX
Blue golf ball. Els struggled to make bogey, and Zhang calmly rolled
in his birdie putt for the win.
Callaway Golf Staff Professional Prayad Marksaeng finished third
behind Els using 12 Callaway Golf(R) clubs and the CTU 30(R) Blue golf
ball. Marksaeng used a Great Big Bertha(R) II Pro Series Titanium
Driver, a Steelhead(TM) III 3-wood, Steelhead X-14(TM) Pro Series
Irons and an Odyssey(R) White Hot(R) 2-Ball Putter. Over six events
this season, the Great Big Bertha II Titanium Driver is the
most-played driver on the PGA European Tour.
