AccuFLEX Golf "Extreme LD" Used By Nancy Abiecunas Wins ReMax World Long Drive Championship Women's Open Division With A Record-Setting 332-Yard Blast! Press Release
AccuFLEX Golf's EXTREME LD shaft was used
by Nancy Abiecunas, the winner of Women's division of the 2003 ReMax World Long
Drive Championship, which was held last weekend at The Palms Golf Club in
Mesquite, Nevada. Abiecunas, a 21 year old newcomer and former University of
Arizona golf team member, used a 50" BANG driver mounted on her "3X" EXTREME LD to
hit a 332 yard drive that wowed the crowd and shocked her fellow competitors.
Nancy's blast was the best of the night by over sixteen yards, the largest
margin of victory in the history of the ReMax Women's finals. The ladies of Long
Drive really stepped up in 2003 with five of the six finalists hitting drives
of over 300 yards. The longest previous finals-winning drive traveled 292
yards and was hit last year by defending champion Stacy Shinnick. LeAnne Hine
(the only woman to have made an appearance in every ReMax Women's Finals to date)
took second place with a drive of 316 yards. Chrissy Zucco of Las Vegas,
Nevada took third with a 314-yarder, Jo D. Duncan hit one 310 yards for fourth and
Shinnick hit 309-yards to earn fifth place. Former LPGA Tour Pro Sally Dee
hit her six balls out-of-bounds in the finals but had a great tournament and
earned a sixth place finish. All six of these ladies used an AccuFLEX shaft to
power their drivers.
"I can't tell you what a thrill it was to hit that 330-yard ball in front of
a rowdy crowd," Abiecunas began. "The atmosphere was so upbeat compared to a
typical golf tournament, which is what I'm used to. I can't say enough about my
AccuFLEX EXTREME LD shaft. I love the feel and the weight of it and it has an
incredible kick. Going from a 43" driver to the 50" clubs they use out here
is pretty tough but once I found my AccuFLEX shaft, it made hitting the longer
club so easy. Thank you AccuFLEX for making such great shafts and for your
support out in Mesquite!"
"We are so proud that our shaft was a part of Nancy's record-setting
performance," AccuFLEX president Jody Baucom stated. "Nancy is a great hitter who
could be a champion many more times in the future whether she decides to try
pursue her LPGA Tour dream or not. The fact that all six women's ReMax finalists
for 2003 hit our shaft is very rewarding to us as a company. Our goal when we
started out in long drive two years ago was to prove that AccuFLEX Golf truly
makes 'A Golf Shaft to Fit Every Swing' by winning titles in each of the Men's
Open, Men's Senior and Women's Open division of the ReMax World Long Drive
Championship. That we have accomplished this in just two years makes us very proud
and that we have added a girl's and boys junior division crown as well is
icing on the cake."
"Jody Baucom at AccuFLEX have been very supportive of women's professional
long drive," Teresa Parker, a three-time ReMax World Finalist who competes with
the AccuFLEX PRO LD stated. "Jody, Steve Zunich and everyone at the company
were among the first to help us out as we have taken the first steps in the
relatively new sport of women's professional long drive. AccuFLEX really deserves
credit not only for this victory but for making major contributions to the
sport that we love so much and that is growing in popularity. Nancy will be a
great champion and a great representative of AccuFLEX Golf shafts."
