CLAYTON BURGER RELIES UPON KING COBRA DRIVER TO WIN 2003 RE/MAX WORLD LONG DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP

As 96 of the world’s longest hitters of a golf ball gathered at the Palms Golf Course in Mesquite, Nevada for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, one participant and one golf club withstood the sport’s ultimate test. Clayton Burger, relying upon his King Cobra driver, unleashed a dramatic 402 yard, 5 inch blast on the last of his six allotted drives to become the second consecutive first-timer to win the Men’s Open division and its $80,000 first prize.

Under a clear, evening desert sky and calm conditions, Burger’s 402-yard drive marked just the second time in the event’s 29-year history when the winning drive exceeded 400 yards. Pinnacle Distance Team member and fellow King Cobra loyalist Jason Zuback was the first to achieve the milestone when he posted a wind-aided 412-yard effort in 1997 to win the second of his record-setting four consecutive titles. Burger also posted a 403-yard drive during the afternoon semifinals that stood as the longest of the week in the Men’s Open division.

"This is just unbelievable, something I never expected to happen this fast," said Burger "This King Cobra driver is the hottest I have ever hit. I look forward to a great relationship with Cobra and hope to continue improving upon my performance with its advanced technology equipment."

Burger captured the title with a King Cobra SS 427 driver head with 4 degrees of loft. Cobra recently introduced the new second generation King Cobra SZ drivers that begin shipping in November. The new King Cobra SZ drivers improve upon the all-important nine hot points across the clubface for greater carry distance and improved accuracy.

A native of Beaumont, Texas, who currently resides in Houston, the 25-year old Burger is a senior project engineer for ExxonMobil Corp. His road to the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship included a local qualifier in Oklahoma City and the regional final in St. Louis. At 6-4, 230 lbs., Burger is a former college baseball player and Texas A&M graduate, who has played golf for 10 years but just became serious about the sport of long drive in June.

As the new champion, Burger earned an exemption on the 2004 Long Drivers Association (LDA) Tour and five-year exemption into the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.
