AccuFLEX Golf Now Offers "X" Flex For Its "ICON v.2" Shaft

Press Release

Posted 2003-03-22

AccuFLEX Golf, Inc. (www.accuflexgolf.com) announced today that its very popular ICON v.2 advanced design composite golf shaft is now available in an "X" flex designation. Previously, the ICON v.2 was available in "S", "R" and "A" flexes. AccuFLEX Golf will continue to offer these flexes, as well as the new "X" flex version of the ICON v.2 to consumers. The ICON v.2 is one of AccuFLEX Golf’s premium high performance shafts featuring the company’s "A2" graphite technology.

"When we set out to create the ICON series," AccuFLEX Golf president Jody Baucom began, "we wanted to create a shaft for Tour players, the ICON, and a more user friendly shaft for the average to above average player, which was the ICON v.2. The ICON was designed in 2002 to see what a shaft made exclusively of our A2 material would play like. The results were PGA and Nationwide (Buy.com) tour victories in the first week the shaft was introduced on each tour. The ICON is a very stout shaft that weighs about 80 grams. Perfect for a lot of the big hitters out there. We learned, however, that some of the players on the Nationwide Tour and PGA Tours were very interested in our lighter weight version of the ICON, the ICON v.2. The "X" flex was requested by enough of the world’s top players that we felt we had to add it to the v.2 line. It’s here now and, in fact, some very prominent Tour players will be testing the ICON v.2 "X" on the driving range at this week’s Honda Classic in West Palm Beach, Florida."

"I am very excited with the introduction of this new flex," AccuFLEX Golf Director of Tour Promotions Frank Fenton stated. "The response to the ICON shaft from PGA Tour players has been very positive. We have had a lot of interest in the ICON v.2 as many players like the fact that it is about 10 grams lighter. Because we didn’t have the v.2 in the stiffer flex, it took about 50% of the field out of consideration. Bringing that 50% back should lead to more ICON v.2s in play out on Tour this year. Between the ICON, the ICON v.2 and the heavier ICON Tour Prototype, we should be able to accommodate any Tour Player in an ICON series shaft."
