Callaway Golf
(NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam has announced that she
will wear shoes from the new Callaway Golf(R) footwear collection this
year. Sorenstam wore Callaway Golf shoes in competition for the first
time last week when she kicked off her 2003 season at the Safeway Ping
LPGA Tour event. She will be wearing them this week as she defends her
consecutive titles at golf's first major championship of the year, the
Nabisco Championship. Sorenstam will wear shoes from the Callaway Golf
footwear collection throughout the year, including her
much-anticipated appearance on the PGA Tour at the Bank of America
Colonial in May.
"I'm always looking to use the best golf equipment, and that
extends to my choice of shoes," said Sorenstam, the 2002 Rolex LPGA
Player of the Year and the winningest woman golfer over the last two
decades. "The new Callaway Golf shoes are the lightest, most
comfortable golf shoes I've ever worn, and they are very stylish. It's
wonderful to have shoes that look great and make my feet feel great
for 18 holes."
The Callaway Golf footwear collection is the product of an
exclusive licensing agreement between the Company and Tour Golf Group,
Inc., which is responsible for the design and sale of the new footwear
line. The collection includes multiple styles and price points in
men's and women's shoes. Each shoe model is lightweight and designed
with innovative moisture management and comfort technologies. The
shoes also feature the proprietary Big Bertha(R) Spike, an advanced
alternative golf spike developed especially for the Callaway Golf
footwear collection.
Sorenstam is one of many tour professionals who are expected to
wear shoes from the Callaway Golf footwear collection around the world
this year. Callaway Golf Staff Professional Charles Howell III has
already worn Callaway Golf footwear on the PGA Tour. Several other
professionals have already tested the shoes in practice rounds, and
some even placed orders for the new shoes upon seeing them at the 2003
PGA Merchandise Show in January. Callaway Golf footwear for men and
women is scheduled to ship to select on-course and off-course golf
retail shops in April.
