Quick Take Review: Sonartec NP-99 Fairway Wood

Andrew Penner

If you wanna be somebody on the PGA Tour – somebody with a razor-sharp game, somebody who has won multiple majors, somebody who is both incredibly gifted and extremely likable – than you’d do pretty well to be Nick Price. Price is a man of the highest repute on tour. Not surprisingly, his equipment is pretty solid too. And, certainly, one of the benefits of being Nick Price would be playing with his great clubs. Now, however, you don’t have to be him to play his exact clubs. Well, one of them anyway.

Thanks to Sonartec’s tribute to Nick Price (Nicky has been a professional advisor for the burgeoning company for the past three years), you can stash the new NP-99 fairway wood in your bag – and brag to the boys that Nick let you borrow his club for a while.

The NP-99 is a hybrid of the company’s popular SS-02 and SS-03 models. However, the NP-99, which also features the exact shaft that Nick plays – the new high-end Aldila NV – has a horseshoe-shaped weight in the sole plate for a deeper center of gravity and more lift.

It didn’t take long for me to get attached to this sleek looking metal. The nice, clean look, the beautifully responsive Aldila shaft, the ease of lift off the face – all made for a memorable introduction. Bottom line: if you wanna be a wannabe, you’d be wise to pay the “price.” www.sonartecgolf.com
