Quick Take: ScoreCards Golf Game

Chris Bereznay

Our copy of ScoreCards Golf arrived today and made it's way to the store room. Normally I don't have a chance to get to reviews so quickly, but it was a cold drizzly night and my wife and I were probably going to do nothing more than watch CNN again, so I picked up the box and decided to take it home with me for a little fun. While removing the game from the box, I was impressed with the quality of materials included and immediately thought that this was a high quality game that might make for some fun even in-between rounds or while on a golf trip with the guys.

The game comes with a score pad and 3 score cards from various golf courses (you can even use score cards from various courses you've collected if you choose). It includes a deck of golf-themed playing cards, instructions for play, and a small golf-type pencil to mark your scores down. The box is very attractive and would make a nice gift or giveaway at at golf outing.

Players take turns drawing cards to move down the fairway and advance towards the hole. The game utilizes the value of each card to determine how long your drives and other shots are and if you've made it to the green or not. Once on the green, you're given a set number of points to "make it in the hole." Watch out, though, there are ranges that if you draw over on both your fairway shots and your putts that will put you "over the green" and add points that you must recover from to get it in the hole.

The game started a little slow as I was referring to the instructions quite a bit for the ranges for each hole, but after we got the point ranges memorized we were playing at a brisk pace. Most rounds took about 20 minutes to play and before we knew it we had 3 or 4 rounds in. The game is a lot of fun for what could be called a really simple concept. Sometimes it's these types of games that are the most enjoyable. Believe me, if you're the slightest bit competitive (as my wife and I are), you'll have little bouts of shouting "you suck" and "loser" during this game.
