Long drive champions Art Sellinger and Brian Pavlet went a perfect 7-0 against amateur challengers from the Des Moines, Iowa area in the finals of the Pinnacle Distance Challenge at the Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Sellinger and Pavlet, members of the elite Pinnacle Distance Team, posted best drives of 342 and 358 yards respectively, as they defeated the seven top qualifiers during the day-long event.
Had any of the challengers defeated Sellinger or Pavlet, he would have won $5,000.00.
Doug Uridil, a 32-year-old heating and air conditioning contractor from Marion, Iowa, had the longest drive among the finalists -- 346 yards. “A friend of mine and I were looking up long drive on the internet and our search took us to pinnaclegolf.com,” said Uridil. “We saw there was a PDC event in Des Moines and made plans to enter. I used a 48 inch Bang driver I bought on ebay.”
Uridil earned a trip to the 2004 Pinnacle Distance Challenge national finals, which will take place in Mesquite, NV in mid-October.
The Pinnacle Distance Challenge, which gives amateurs and recreational golfers an opportunity to go head-to-head with the longest hitters in golf, moves on to Rockford, Illinois on June 12. The fifth of ten regional events will take place at the Golf Shack.
