Was feeling like my TItleist 58debree wedge wasn't biting as much as it used too..and was looking rather worn. So I bought a new one as I happened to run into a somewhat unexpected extra $100 tofday...So got the new Vockey SM7 at Golf Galaxy. Playing tomorrow so looking forward to trying it out. I practice with that 58 degree wedge all the time and I read an interesting thing reading about how quickly the face can wear down and how much the wear affects the bite and rollout on the green. And interesting that- because many time we practice with that club, it gets a lot of additional wear..especially when we chip in a perfect condition and the ball strike is pure to the ball with less grass and such to ease some of the impact. Anyway, it was a little splurge but had some extra $$ so no big deal. I read Bubba practices with one wedge but never the one he plays with because he doesn't want to wear it down. Not like he pays for his clubs anyway!!! ha
good deal, Scott. I love my Vokey wedges and I always wonder how I can tell when they are due for replacement. I don't put that much backspin on the ball to begin with (no pulling back the string) so I probably play them longer than someone else would because the decrease in spin isn't as noticeable to me.
It's not how...it's how many
I think it would be nice to hit both sedges on a launch monitor and see exactly what the difference in spin is between the new one you just got and your old one. I can see how it would make sense to practice with one wedge and then save the newer one for out on the course. If they are the same wedge, it should be easy to do and NOT hurt your game one bit.

Agree Don. I watched Titleit's videos and they showed abotu 1000 RPMs difference in spin and a degree or two in loft.
Aimee..besides having a pretty decent discoloration in the club center, I ran my finger down the old wedge and the new one. Can definitely tell a difference. Now how much RPM difference is the question. That I don't know yet.

Your sand wedge will wear out the fastest. Hit a ball with a wedge is not that hard on the metal of the wedge, but hitting SAND in a buker is kind of like running your sand wedge through a sand bastting cabnet. You can remove a LOT of metal using a sand blasting setup on a piece of metal, which is why people do it all the time. This is why a lot of tour pross will have a sand wedge to practice with and another one to use during a round of golf.
