Last week I received and E-mail from Titleist about a new set of irons they were releasing, so I went to their site to have a look just for fun. I could NOT believe the price of the new irons, more for ONE club then I'd be willing to pay for a full set. I ended up on E-bay looking at some other Titleist irons and found a few used sets of their AP2 irons up for auction. Some at a decent price which got my interest. I ended up bidding on a few sets and at the end I won the bidding on a set of 714 AP2 irons, 4-PW with S flex Nippon steel shafts and brand new grips. With shipping and tax it came to a little less than $275 in total. The photos of the clubs look pretty good, little or no signs of use. The soles of ALL of the clubs look bright and polished, just like new. If the clubs look as good in person as they do in the photos I'll be very happy with my purchase. NOT sure what made me buy them as I sure do NOT need more irons. But the price was pretty good for a nice set of forged Titleist irons and I figure I now have a good reason to get back out to the practice range and hit some balls again. If for no other reasont than to see how I like the new clubs. First plan is to hit the clubs as is. Then decide if I like the shafts enough to pull them and do a full Spine and FLO alignment job ot all 7 shafts. That will mean pulling the new grips as well, so IF I do not like the new Tacky Mac grips they have on them I can just replace them with some half cord grips I happen to have on hand in my shop.
From what I understand, the Nippon Tour Stiff shafts are pretty much a Japanese equilant of the TT Dymamic Gold shafts that are some of the best steel shafts made. This will give me a chance to see if that is true or not. If I do not like them I have some options available as I have a few sets of iron shafts in my shop to consider using in the Titleist AP2 heads.
Here is a link to what I purchase with photos of the clubs.
The are due to arrive Monday of next week so it will not be too long before I know if I just wasted my money or not. Wish me luck guys.
