The Secret Grip

I got to hit a few dozen balls with my 52* Gap wedge when I was warming up at the range yesterday. I recently installed a new grip on the club. It's a 95 gram counter balanced grip called the Secret Grip. It's a much heaver grip than the standard size grip which average 50 grams. And it has an 18 gram weight at the butt end of the grip to counter balance the club. This is what Jack Nicklaus has been doing for years now. I hit another Gap wedge with a standard grip on it at the same time to get an idea of what if anything the Secret Grip did for me. What I can tell you is that my shot dispersion with the wedge with the Secret Grip was a good bit SMALLER than what I got with the standard weight grip wedge. I want to do some more testing with a few other clubs before I do a full review on the heavy grip, but it's looking rather promising so far.

Cool Don, let us know what

Cool Don, let us know what you hear. I've heard of people using the heavier grips lately and I haven't tried them. So curious to see what you think.

DON
more cossistent riight to left ball pattern

What I noticed most was how CLOSE to my target line I was hitting the balls with the wedge with the Secret Grip. It just seemed like I was hitting more balls ONLINE with the heavy grip club. Could be partly due to the added weight, 95 grams vx 50 grams. And it could be due to the 18 gram counter weight in the butt end of the grip. As an experiment I'm going to make a 25 gram weight out of steel that I can install in the butt of an extra wedge and then compare that wedge with the Secret Grip wedge. If the counter weight I make does the job, then I can build a set of them for all my clubs. Simple job to pull off the current grip and slide my weight into the butt end of the shaft and then re-install the grip. I have some half cord grips on most of my clubs, so it would be nice to be able to keep my current style of grip on my clubs. I'll let you know how my experiment goes after I get a chance to do some testing.
