And here is a link for one source for the battery. There are half a dozen sellers at least, so this is just one to look at. Prices will vary, some are asking over $20 for the same item.
Putting is easy if you have the Right Putter.
Thanks Don, I'll keep that handy. We will see how long my battery goes...then I'll give the replacement a try. Too bad it's not more easily replaceable.
Golf is a game that can only be played...
I don't think there would be any problems replacing the factory battery. Only issue is the adhesive they use to hold the battery in the compartment. Once the adhesive is removed along with the factory battery, I don't see ANY need to use adhesive on the new battery. From everything I can find out about the replacement battery they do NOT come with an adhesive stripe.
Just an update on the new Touch GPS from Sky Golf. The latest information I can find on their site is it's "Coming Soon". Not too long ago if was "Shipping in October", but that has been replaced with Coming Soon. For a GPS that was Pre-Sold back in early March, with delivery date of the first of April, this is turning into a real JOKE for the company. IS it even LEGAL to charge a customer for an item, using his credit card, and NOT deliver the product for 7 months?
Yesterday just for fun I went on the Sky Golf site to check on the statis of the new Touch unit. Still says shipping in October, nothing new there. Their Live Chat window popped up so I typed a question to their rep. I asked if they had a SOLID shipping date, not just "Mid October", and also "How Many Pre-Sold units did they sell.". I was looking for a Number Sold to get an idea of how long the "Waiting Line" is for the units when they do come in. The rep had NO answer to either question, and they acted surprised that I told him I would NOT be ordering a Touch at this time. WHY would anyone order the Touch now when you have NO IDEA of when they might get them in, and how long the waiting line might be?? NOT ME I can tell you that. Not that I intend to buy one when they do come in. Not sure the SGXw I have was a good buy and half what they want for the Touch.
Usually, when you pre-order, you don't actually get charged until the item ships. I have pre-ordered lots of things off Amazon and never seen a charge until the item actually shipped. But looking online people are - or were - really complaining that Skygolf took their $$$ and wasn't deliverying. I saw a number of posts saying the delay was with a supplier but jeez, this is many months later. For some they've sent free golf balls, but i don't think that's enough of a apology, not if you've been waiting that long.
Now I see they have a Oct 21th shipping date, in the order received. It started as mid to late March when they started taking pre-orders and charging credit cards, now it's SEVEN months later with a promised shipping date of Oct21th. I have to wonder how long it will take to catch up with their sales. Assuming they sold hundreds of not thousands of these things, who knows how long it will be before they have enough units to fill the backlog and get units into some golf shops again. I have to wonder if it is even LEGAL to charge the credit cards of customers months in advance??? Something tells me this sad story is NOT over yet. For the sake of the golfers that purchased the Touch, I hope the thing works when they get it. I've heard of a lot of complaints about the new I-phones not working and there being issues of having to download fixes for the software. Time will tell I guess.
I don't think I wont one actually but I'd wait until they get into the stores...I mean now, now most people probably will be playing less so they wont be needing it as much now, least not until the spring.
I just got an email from SkyGolf, and the new shipping date has slipped back to Nov 1st. And they have what they call DEALS on the new Touch and membership deals as well. Seems they will give you up to $100 for your used SGXw if you buy a new Touch and mail in your old unit. They also have some deals of 3 year memberships with a bonus of 2 or 3 dozen golf balls. If you don't mind paying for a 3 year membership for $150, you can get either 3 dozen E6 balls or 2 dozen Rx balls. That brings the cost of the membership down a bit if you figure the cost of the balls reduces what you are paying for the 3 year membership. The bolf balls sell for $80 to $90 so that makes the membership a little easier to swallow. Assuming you like the golf balls and need some.
Yeah I got a similar email Don. Lots of incentive to trade-in but I think I'll wait .. would hate to trade it in and then not have something for 6 months. That's crazy. Plus, I'm not sure I'll like the Touch. A friend of mine bought a similar Garmin version and didn't like it. Didn't like the screen size and the touch screen seemed like it was slow to respond. For now I'll probably stick with my SGX.
I'm not sure I'd like the Touch either. I can see how "Finger Prints" on the screen could be a problem out in the sunlight. Screen size is the same as with the SGX, so that shouldn't be an issue. And the only give you $100 when you trade in a SGXw unit, and they are selling for more than that currently on E-Bay, so you would be better off selling you current unit yourself. Plus I can NOT get an answer from SkyGolf as to how many Touch units they have pre-sold and how long it might be before they catch up with their backlog.
Hers is a post I just read online about Sky Golf that some of you may find interesting.

I have owned a SG5 and SGWx, the SG5 broke after 18 months which for me is about 30 games of golf, I was about to buy a Golfbuddy and my wife surprised me at Christmas with an SGWx, again it’s broke after nearly 2 years, the battery doesn’t hold a charge, the track ball gave up months ago and now the buttons don’t work, I contacted skycaddie and they asked me to send it back and pay $89.95 I explain I live in England so they gave me a different address and asked for £89.95 when I questioned the $ v £ exchange rate they just said they charge more in the UK, I asked why and they replied ” because we can"
DO NOT BUY FROM SKYCADDIE!
What a shame because they had a good product and could have made a fortune, all my golfing friends who have owned a skycaddie have had problems so we are off to see what the garmin is like.
I just read a post on Sky Golfs own site about a guy that tried to trade in his SGX for the $100 off offer. They told him the deal of over due to a good response from other SGX owners. The deal of over the same day this guy was calling, so he told them the day was NOT over yet and could they still honor the offer, They told him NO.
Last I checked the latest shipping date for the new Touch is Nov 1st. This all started back in mid MARCH and still NO units have come into them and none have been shipped out to customers. Only thing they know at Sky Golf is that they will ship in the order received, No one can tell me how many units were Pre=Sold, so they can't tell me how long it might take to fill their current orders or how long it might take to fill a NEW order. Needless to say, I'm NOT going to buy one and I can't imagine that I EVER WILL. This is NOT a company that cares about their customers, ONLY about profit.
whatever issues other people may have had...my old Skycaddie 2.5 works just fine. Maybe because it is a simple model. Still holds enough charge for 2 rounds (about 10 hours). As in all things...YMMV
I don't care if they pre-sold the new models, that's their prerogative. Don't care how many they may have pre-sold. Not going to sit here and pat myself on the back for not pre-ordering (not that I've ever pre-ordered anything in my life). And if they are in business to make as much money as they can because the market will allow it...welcome to the USA. My company survives on selling things at a profit. Nobody who sells "things" does so to break even.
It's not how...it's how many
Nothing wrong with making a profit, But NOT when you screw your customers in the process. Sky-Golf took orders for the Touch back in Mid March, with a promised delivery date in April. Now they are saying they will start to deliver them on November 1st. Not only did that take orders for them, but the CHARGED for them at the time of the order. I don't think it's right to charge a customers credit card more than $300 per unit and NOT deliver the units when promised. Seven months later and they have not shipped a single unit. Up to seven months they have had their customers MONEY to work with, with nothing in the way of customer support for the people that keep them in business.
I agree that it is not scrupulous to charge for something when the ship date is not known. I order plenty of stuff online and when something is delayed I have seen the vendor wait to actually process the charge. So if Sky Golf is actually taking money without a firm ship date, the customers have the right to contact their credit card company and get the money back.
I would be very surprised if they actually are charging people for units not shipped. Don't believe everything you read from disgruntled customers. It isn't a "fly by night" company. I've read that they ran in to a big issue with a supplier, so they couldn't get the units together.
The only exception is when you are offered a big discount to "pre-order" knowing that you aren't getting something for a period of time...you go in knowing that you will be charged but take the charge because it is a significant discount typically.
Well good Point Aimee. if they were getting a nice discount under the condition they were pre-ordering with just an estimated ship date, I suppose you have to factor that in. My biggest problem is the actual being charged for it when they have not and don't plan to ship it. I would have probably called my credit card company and requested a refund. But I wouldn't have pre-ordered something like that anyway really. I doubt the savings were THAT much to make it worth paying in advance.
I've read a LOT of posted on the Sky Golf site and a few others about the new Touch. YES, they have been charging the credit cards for the Touch, as far back as Mid March, with promised shipping dates starting in early April, then Mid April and now it's Nov 1st. And from everything I've read there was NO discount of any size if you pre-order. Only reason to pre-order was to get one Sooner, than if you waited. But that didn't happen as they still have not shipped any units. And Tomorrow is Nov. 1st. so it's time to ship or get out of town on this one.
Their latest promo is a discount on a 3 year membership that allows a member to use up to three gps units on his or her 3 year plan and no extra cost. Might be a good deal if you have a spouse or kid with their own unit. Might be nice if I'm playing golf with my wife and she wants to have her own SGXw to use while I use the other one. Not sure how many golfers would benefit from this offer, but I'm sure a few would like it. If nothing else you could have two units and when the battery in one ran out you could turn it off and turn on the second one to finish out your game.
I'm not sure my use of the word NEW is fitting for the SkyCaddie Touch, as it went on sale back in March. For fun I just went to their site to see what was new, and it still says you can place a "Pre_order" for the Touch, They say that they have started to ship the units according to one of their "Chat" people. So I asked him "When" I could expect a Touch to be shipped to me IF I were to place and order for one now. His answer was "Early in 2015". I asked if Next Year was the best estimate he could provide me and he said YES. While I have NO intention of buying the Touch at any point, this lack of a solid shipping date will not make many friends for the company.
