The Touch is shipping. BUT

As most of you already know, Sky Golf started taking Pre-Orders for their latest product, the Touch back in February, with promised delivery in March. That date has "Slipped" a dozen times and it's now Nov 1st. which was a Saturday, when NO one was at work so NO units could be shipped even if they had them to ship.

Now I read on the Sky Golf site that units HAVE been shipped to at least TWO customers. PROBLEM is that BOTH of these customers didn't place their orders until October 10th and October 11th. Months AFTER the company took orders back in the spring. And BOTH of these customers placed their order using the "Trade-In" offer they received for trading in a used SGX or SGXw unit, They got an email on October with this offer. NONE of the other posters on the Sky Golf site have received ANY shipping dates for their months older orders.

Is it because as I believe, the reason they have a shipping date and the rest of the customers have NOT, is because the company wants to get some "Used SGX units" in on trade, so they can then have them to offer for SALE on their site as "Re-furbished" units?? Is this another way for Sky Golf to "Make more Money" at the expense of their customers? I have to wonder. What about you? Are you thinking the same thing?

One more thing you need to know about this is that Sky Golf has it posted on their site that "Orders will be shipped in the order they were received. So orders place on Oct 10th or 11th, should NOT be shipped BEFORE orders placed in February or March. And when I asked Sky Golf this morning when I might expect a unit IF I were to place and order TODAY, they told me "Early In 2015" was the best estimate they could offer me. So HOW COME they can ship an order placed about 3 WEEKS ago have been shipped ahead of orders placed up to ELEVEN MONTHS AGO???

No idea Don. Unless someone

No idea Don. Unless someone at the company just purely screwed up .. it doesn't make much sense. Have those 2 people said they received their units? Maybe more have been shipped but Skygolf just hasn't publicized that yet? Dunno.

I'm sure they make a good amount of $ buying used units, refurbing them and selling them back higher. though I doubt it is a huge part of their revenue stream. That comes from subscriptions and people buying new hardware.

So what did you do with yours? Once your 30 day trial ran out, did you get a subscription with them or are you using the unit without one?

Third Touch has shipped that I know of

I just read that now THREE Touch units have been shipped, ALL three were ordered from Oct 10th to the 12th, and ALL three were Trade-Ins. So there seems to be a pattern of Sky Golf ONLY shipping out units where they will be getting a used GPS as a trade in, Orders placed as far back as Feb. have NOT been filled. There currently are ZERO used SGX or SGXw GPS units for sale on their site, so getting some in as fast as possible seems to the plan of the day for Sky Golf. Get them in, clean them up and re-sell them along with a new membership plan for even more money.

If ONE unit was shipped out the a recent order with a Trade-In, it might be a screw up, but ALL THREE being trade-in orders is too much to accept as just an error.

ONE Touch has come in.

According to the posts on the Sky Golf site, at least ONE Touch has Landed. It came in early today. ALL of the Touch units that have been shipped so far other than ONE had been orders in mid October using the Trade-In offer. The ONE Touch that was ordered earlier than mid October didn't get shipped UNTIL the customer Called customer service and "Complained" about his order not being shipped while others that were ordered MONTHS after his have been shipped, They told him they would look into it, and NEXT DAY he gets an email telling him his Touch is on it's way. From what I've read on this site, EVERYONE else that have placed orders months ago are still waiting for some news as to when they might ship out their order.

Now I just HOPE that this latest model of the Sky Caddy actually WORKS well when they arrive. The ONE guy that has received his Touch says he will play a round this weekend with it so I should nave an update by Monday.

Recent comments about the Touch from the SkyGolf site.

here are some recent comments about the Touch I got from the SkyGolf site. These comments were posted by SkyGolf customers about their experiences with the company. I think they are worth reading, especially IF you might be thinking of buying a Touch any time soon.

I played with my Touch some more today, and I may have not got the backlight set high enough when I played my first round of golf The other day. It seemed like it was back in auto mode when I first turned it on today. When I set the backlight to 80% or 100%, it was very bright and vivid. So perhaps I spoke too soon about the unit being too dim. I also may not of had it fully charged when I went out and played.

I thought I should retract my previous statements.

Mike

Well, I just booted it up again and found that it had reverted back to AUTO on the backlight setting. I changed it to 100% and backed out of the menu. Went back in and it was still set to 100%. I quit and powered it off. Waited 5 minutes and powered it back on and went to the basic menu and it had again gone back to AUTO.

Am I missing something here?

Touch did not arrive today. They may have shipped it today. So I will have to wait. I have a tournament on Thursday. I would like to try it before then.

I received my Touch yesterday. I have to say I am disappointed. I have not played golf with it yet but I can tell you that just based on handling it so far I am thinking of sending it back. The buttons are very hard to press on either side. It takes forever to boot up and go far I am just not impressed. I am thinking about holding on to my SGX for a while longer as I attempt to make a decision.

I recommended to my friend to wait to upgrade. After playing a round, the software is just not there yet. Sure it performs like a basic skycaddie model should, but no intelligreen, no pin zone selection, no details around the green, no cases or screen protector... And moving the cursor around just feels clumsy to me right now.

On the good side, I really, really like the hardware. But because of the size it really needs a case and film for protection. Can't understand why they wouldn't have these ready after knowing the dimensions for at least 6 months.

Hoping by spring, and the new golf season here, that they get all of this woked out.

Thanks Don. I just don't see

Thanks Don. I just don't see where there is enough different in it to make it worth the upgrade. Unless the underlying hardware has things in it that enabled them to do wonderous things later, I don't see why what I have now needs to be replaced. Like the WII U gaming system I bought was partly because it's a game changer with respect to how it's designed and the things they could do in the future seem cool. So unless there's something under the hood different, I don't know why I wouldn't stay with my SGX.

Here is one more update from the SkyGolf site on the Touch

My Touch just showed up on my account so shipping should be soon. Sadly, the season is over for me up here so I'll have to compare it to my SGXw from my living room.

In your case the old saying of "Better Late Than Never" may not apply. Your Warranty period just started and it will be HALF UP before you get to use your Touch next season. You would have been better off if your Touch didn't get there until Spring when you could use it.

Here is a copy of a Live Chat I just had with SkyGolf

How long is the warranty on the new Touch?

Robert Rhodes: Don, it will come with 180 days warranty, you can purchase Extended warranty $19.95 for another 180 days.

So I was wrong on my last post, Your warranty will be just about OVER in the spring when you get a chance to USE your new Touch. NOT half up, but ALL used up before you get a chance to see IF it WORKS or NOT.

You might want to SEND IT BACK, now and if you still want one, buy one in the spring so you can get the full use of your 180 day warranty. That's what I'd do if they sent me one now after the season is over.

Received my new Touch yesterday, no, none of my courses were preloaded. They had only registered the Touch to my account, nothing else. Their marketing department is claiming it's a $39.95 value which we were to receive for free with the preorder. Plain and simple, it's called misrepresentation, no excuse for it.

Hi WilliamJonson,

Thank you for posting. The TOUCH has all courses preloaded. Once we activated the membership on your SkyCaddie TOUCH, it provides access to all courses included with your membership. Are you unable to access a specific course?

CustomerCareAdmin,

What is being asked for/expected is all your favorites that were loaded on you previous device be loaded on your Touch, that is how it is interpreted from the White Glove wording the company has released. The way you have explained it, is no different than buying a unit off the shelf, we, the user, still need to sync in order to get the HD courses. The White Glove service portrays itself is that the HD courses (not just the preloaded courses) should be on the device when received, not just the unit being registered to the user. I was shocked as well to only find the Demo course was the only HD course loaded prior to syncing.

Since every Touch comes with all the courses (in preloaded version), in the end the only thing you get with the White Glove service is the unit shipping with it registered to you. As was stated prior, this is NOT a $39 value.

As you can see from the above posts on SkyGolf's site their customers are NOT happy with the new Touch. They give you the White Glove Service for FREE and "Claim" it's worth $39.value, but all they do is "Register" you new Touch before they ship it. Some deal this is. NO courses come installed on the GPS, NOT the HD ones at least. Sure, the unit comes Pre-Loaded with BASIC course data, BUT you still NEED to download the HD data if you want anything other than yardage to the green. For any other information you NEED to download the HD data onto the unit. That service was SUPPOSED to be part of the White Glove Service, but it didn't. Another case of BAD customer service from SkyGolf

I think Sky Golf is over

I think Sky Golf is over their head right now in many ways with this Touch release. FIrst they build up the hype to get people to pre-order....then they can't deliver....then they keep delaying and now that they are shipping people are upset that all the marketing hype was fluff. Going to be awhile before they recover. Now in theory I suppose, people are getting the device before other customers can but yes, it's now in most places the end of season so a lot of good that does them. hate it for them, hence why I won't pre-order and pay-in-advance for anything..

DON
And they are buggy

I've read some early reposts from a few guys that received their ordered Touch, and they all say they don't work as promsed, with a number of bugs. Features that were included in the older models and supposed to be in the Touch are not there. One guy says he has had to Re--Boot his Touch a few times already as it tend to Freeze on him. One thing worth noting about the Touch is that it comes with only a 180 warranty that starts the day it is shipped. So for those customers that placed their order BEFORE the start of the past golf season, will not have much if any of the warranty period left when spring comes around again and they get to use their Touch out on the course. Let's be honest here, a 180 day warranty that starts in mid Nov, for a golf GPS you can't use now because the season is over, is like getting a GPS with NO Warranty at all. The customers that received their orders in mid Nov would be smart to return them NOW and if they still want one come spring, they could order one then and have the use of a NEW 180 warranty, not one that will expire about the time they get to play golf again in the spring.

The other BIG problem with the Touch orders is that ZERO orders placed last spring have been filled as far as I can see. ONLY those orders that were placed in mid Oct with the Trade-In offer have shipped. Orders place a month ago have been filled, at least a half dozen that I know about, but ZERO have been filled on orders places as far back as Mid March. So much for placing an order EARLY to get first delivery. This is a SLAP in the face to all those customers that PAID $300 for a Touch 6 or 7 months ago. Especially when recent orders with the Trade-In got a new Touch for $100 LESS, and some of them were shipped in less then a month. NOT the way to treat their customers, and NOT the way to run a business.

What's the status on the Touch these days?  I saw some new emails from them offering upgrade deals, made me wonder where things stand. Are they shipping and being delivered now?
