The Anaheim Hills Country Club is a class act. I played in a tournament there last week and was really impressed at the quality of this club. Everything from the Spanish Villa style club house to the fine food and excellently maintained course make you think you are at a private club but it is a moderately priced public course. We had over 100 people in our event and most had not been there before but everyone felt at home.
The course is 18 holes 6,245 yards so not a long course but has a variety of holes that play up and down the Anaheim Hills making it play longer than it is. The Course rating is 69.9 and the rating is 117. Our tournament was stroke play and I was one under my index so the course played as rated for me. I didn’t win any prizes but had a great time both on the course and at the awards dinner. This is a very hilly course and it is cart only no walking and believe me you would not want to. There are a lot of blind shots mostly due to the hills but there are some trees that are well placed. The fairways are mostly level though so tee shots are open. Seven of the fairways are doglegs and all are tree lined so if you want a good shot into the green you need to plan your shot and get on the correct side of the turn. If you do not stay in the fairways you will become acquainted with the creek that runs alongside many of the fairways. The 13th hole is my favorite with water on three sides of the green. It is a 207 yard par 3 that gives you a great view of most of the course and the surrounding hills. This is really a beautiful hole with a lot of character. The 15th is a shot par four but has a tee that is about 50 feet about the fairway giving you another beautiful view of the course. You will want to pay attention on this one it is easy to go OB.
The driving range is a fairly new facility with nice stalls but you will be hitting from mats. I really enjoyed playing this course and plan to play again next time I am in Los Angeles. This is one of those courses you need to play a couple of times to get the feel for it. I would rate this course 5 of 5 stars for design and value.
