Roddy Ranch Golf Club in Antioch, California is one of the newer courses it was built on the historic Roddy Ranch and opened in 2000. It is a little known course that offers one of the most challenging rounds. They offer 3 sets of men’s tees and two women’s. From the black championship tees it plays 7024 from the tips 6529 yards from the gold and 6043 yards from the whites. The woman have a set of championship tees that play 5990 yards and rust tees that play 5390 yards. So it is a long course with some deep rough and strategically placed bunkers. The course is a Michael Poellot (ASGCA) design and is a highly maintained course. The only draw backs are very few trees which is to be expected on a new course and some very strong winds at times that can make the day a long one. So if you are out there on a windy day sun glasses and allergy medicine is a good idea. One of the best things about this course is what you get for your money. The best thing to do is log on to the website and register for a free game on your birthday. The public online special rates are the best bargain you can usually get 40 percent off on your round by clicking that tab and booking online. Other than the distance the wind on some of the holes can make some holes play a lot longer or shorter than what the card says. The 600 yard par five 10th hole has a helping wind but the 224 yard par three 13th has your wind in your face and bunkers around the green making it one of the more difficult holes. Besides the added length on the black tees the angle from the black tees makes the fairways play a lot narrower than from the other tees. No matter which tees you decide to play from the approach shots are always a challenge with the wind coming from different directions off the surrounding hills and bunkers strategically placed around the sloping greens. The back nine plays a bit harder than the front but the last three holes give you a chance to make up for the previous six holes be sure to take advantage of the opportunities on these somewhat easier holes. If you like to play tournaments it would be good to register on line and get on distribution for the upcoming tournaments they have quite a few through out the year. There is no dress code at this course. The club house was recently renovated and has much more to offer than they did before and they just replaced the carts with the new style carts. Just an example of how management is investing in the upkeep of the course. I like this course a lot just not on a real windy day. It is worth the drive to play a challenging course.
