Tilden Park Golf Course has really changed over the last few years. So a lot of people remember it as the old run down course it was, If you are one of them you need to get back out there. I am on the mailing list and got an email this morning announcing that they were having an appreciation day this Saturday offering a round of golf with cart all day for 29 dollars I signed up right away and good thing because I got a second email within 2 hours saying it was sold out. The point is the secret is out about Tilden Park. The park is located in the Berkeley Hills just minutes from the freeway. This is a William Bell Jr. Design there are 18 very scenic holes on a par 70 course. The signature hole is the first hole a 420 yard par 4 that goes up hill to an elevated green and is considered to be one of the toughest starting holes in the Bay area. Tilden Park has made big improvements to the greens, bunkers, Tee boxes, and fairways. I had not been there in a while and then played a dozen times last summer and really enjoyed it. The pace of play can be a little slow on the weekends but during the week it is as good as any Bay area course. It is really important to sign up for the email notifications they offer some great deals. If you check the web site before booking and are willing to adjust your playing time you can usually get on for a great price. Go to the web site and click on the Tee Time Specials. It will give you discounted tee times with and with out cart. I am usually able to get on during the week with a cart for 25 dollars or less just about any time of day. You just need to be a little bit flexible. The course was originally built in 1937 by predominantly blue grass. The fairways are narrow and long. The design is built into the Berkeley Hills so there are a lot of dog legs and overhanging mature trees. But it is a good design and requires a lot of imagination to play well. The course is very hilly with a lot of uneven lies that will challenge the best golfer. The driving range has three levels and over 60 stalls. There are two putting greens and two chipping areas. Call ahead and schedule a lesson with the golf pro Trish Hinze to get your day off to a good start. On the web site there is information on the Golf Learning Center they have a lot of group lessons and if you work for a large company you can contact Kim Stevens to see if you qualify for group discount. It is a friendly course and the Manager Mark Sousa is on site and available to help out with any concerns. Tilden Park also has a full service bar and Grill with some great burgers and cold beer. Tilden is one of the best bargains in the bay area for Golf.
