The Las Positas Golf Course is a Robert Muir Graves designed course that first opened in 1966 and has strategically designed par 72 championship course and a 9 hole executive course. I have played both several times and personally enjoy the executive course more because you never need a tee time and you almost never have slow play in front of you. The course has 7 lakes and a creek that splits fairways and gives a relatively flat course some character. The course is a great value for the otherwise expensive valley area especially after 2:00PM. The best way to get in on the special rates is to sign up for the Email club for monthly offers. The course is quite a bit more challenging from the blue tees. The rating is still only 68.2 from the longest tees though. It is a relatively short course at 5,709 yards but does have three holes that make it difficult for even a long hitter to hit the green in regulation. The slope rating is 116 and the grass is mostly blue grass. Jeff DeBenedetti manages the course as the golf professional and general manager. They have a very good staff in the pro shop that will do whatever they can to make your experience a good one. The driving range is a little far off from the course but I like it because you have the option of using mats or hitting from the grass and there is plenty of room to hit the driver. The chipping green is adjacent to the driving range and the oversized putting green is in front of the number one tee box so you can practice while you are waiting to tee it up. The greens are almost always in good shape and hold the ball well which is good because they are small and there is not much room on some for error. The only down fall is the fairways do not drain well and so when they over water in the summer you have casual water and in the winter it is worse. The grass in the fairways usually has problems staying green in some areas. It is a great environment though. You can expect to see a deer, Coyote or even a red fox on the fairways. If you want to take lessons look up Andy Nisbet he has been teaching for 8 years and has been a class A Professional status since 2004. Andy comes from Michigan and has brought with him a lot of positive things like G.R.I.P swing analysis program for the juniors. And the adult Improvement Golf Schools. You will not be disappointed. One more thing when you are done with your game you got to go to the grill and get one of the many specialty burgers. My favorite is the Monterey Burger. These are some of the best burgers around.
