Poppy Ridge is in great shape and is a great value. It is a links style course and is in my opinion not for the beginner. The rough is tall and if you do find your ball you are not going to get a good shot out so you might want to just take an unplayable. There is water on all the par threes and the par fives are short but have some awkward lies that force you to use your imagination. It can be a fun course and the views are definitely beautiful. There are three nine hole courses so you can mix it up and play any two. So it gives the player a lot of variety. The practice facility is one of the best around. Even the longest hitter will not be able to reach the limits of the facility. There are two chipping facilities that offer deep bunker practice and one of the largest putting greens around. The grill is fantastic. The eggs Benedict or the fish and chips are two of my favorites with an Arnold Palmer made from fresh lemon aid. I have attended two tournaments at Poppy Ride and both were top notch. The staff does an excellent job and the facility is big enough to handle crowds of up to 216 players. There are only a few things that you need to be aware of. There is a lot of wind in the hills that surround Livermore valley so take that into account when calculating your shot or bring a lot of extra balls. If you are going to walk the course be prepared for a hilly walk. If you plan on using a pull cart plan on having an even longer walk as you will need to use a lot of the cart paths, there are few short cuts on this course. The 15 dollars for a cart is well worth it especially if you are an NCGA member because you will get a huge discount on your round and up to three guests. Overall it is a great course they have a lot of activities and free lessons so check the web site and get on the mailing list for some great deals.
