prov1tony on 2009-07-12 wrote the following regarding Brookside Country Club:

Brookside is a private club with and 18 hole Championship Golf Course designed by the world famous architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. The course was built in an area that was formerly a flat piece of farmland with no trees. It was built in 1991 so the trees have had a chance to grow and look quite natural in the design that includes 14 lakes and boasts a Scottish flavor as all of the courses built in this area do. It is a par 72 course designed for golfers of all skill levels. The club holds two annual tournaments where you can have a chance to see the pro’s or semi pro’s. They sponsor a CGA tournament (Canadian Golf Association) and a Nation Wide tour event. They are fun events where the membership is encouraged to get involved. The 18 hole course at Brookside country club has 6,720 yards of golf from the championship tee’s. The course rating is 72.6 and has a slope rating of 125. The course uses Rye grass and is relatively flat but has a lot of rolling hills. The General Manager is Graham Leibowitz and he is very involved in the day to day operations of the club insuring that everything from the golf experience, outstanding tennis courts and fine dining are at a high standard. I personally do not think that the rating or slop are quite accurate. They can be in the best conditions but in tournament conditions when the greens are cut low they can be very fast (13 on the stimpmeter), the rough can be arduous and the course can play a lot longer when the winds are up. I watched a young nationwide player break the club record with a round of 66 on a Sunday afternoon after two previous days of 70 and 72. The point is the course is set up to play tough when needed but can be mastered. The fairways are narrow and are usually well defined with long rough. The 14 lakes come into play on several of the holes making distance judgment essential. What makes this course so competitive is the need for an accurate tee shot. If you are not in the fairway you will be in the water or in the rough. Approach shots need to be judged accurately or you will be in the water, a trap or in some pretty deep rough. The greens are hard and so do not hold well, something you will need to take into account when planning your approach shot. The real challenges come at the end of the front nine. The ninth hole is an elevated tee with a narrow dog leg left to an elevated green. This can be a very challenging hole. This is only out done by the last three holes which will definitely give you something to remember. All three tee shots require you to go either over or along side water hazards into undulating and very fast greens. It is a fun and challenging course that is kept in immaculate shape. The practice facilities are large and well maintained. The driving range is two tiered and the putting greens are expansive and well maintained and indicative of what you will find on the course. The chipping green is well targeted for both short and long shots. The golf shop is well stocked with the latest gear and golf fashions. The club employs two golf professionals that can provide both traditional lessons and the most modern swing analyzing video technology that will help you to see the things you need to work on and monitor your progress through your lessons. If you are looking for a private club Brookside is one with all the extras at a bargain rate. I have played on this course for the last 9 years both as a member and a quest and rate it 5 of 5 stars.
