This is a really nice, well maintained local course that has enough challenge for the intermediate level golfer and is very family and beginner friendly. The layout is relatively straight with some minor elevation changes. Marada is built over rolling farmlands so you can picture the western pennsylvania terrain. Par is 35, and water comes into play on about 2 holes if I remember correctly. Hole number 3 is a par 5 slight dogleg to the left that can be quite challenging if you don't find the fairway at the perfect angle. Hole number 2 is a challenge as well as it's a 440 yard Par 4. Takes two big shots to hit the green there. Hole 9 is a tough finish with a 210 par 3 where the distance is right between most folks long and short irons and sticking the green can be a challenge with the trajectory that the shot requires. Friendly staff, well manicured, and relatively inexpensive, Marada will have you coming back again and again. I try and stop by every time I'm staying at the Pittsburgh International Airport or nearby in Moon Township as Marada is very close by and a quick can ride. Plus, there's a nice country market nearby called Janowskis I believe. Always nice to pick up a few snacks there on the way back to my room at the hotel. Played here with a buddy this past Saturday. We were looking for a local course to play, as I live in Moon and he was visting from out of town, and neither of us had all day for 18. Because Marada is only 9 holes and within 10 minutes we decided to give it a shot. From the course website, which is hosted by Course Trends, it looked to be a decent deal so that helped in the decision process as well.
What we found with Marada was that for the price ($16 walking on a Saturday at 10:40am) we had a really enjoyable afternoon, and we really used everything in our bag like the website says. There were 2 par 5's if I remember correctly, a bunch of par 4's and a couple long par 3's that were a real challenge as we were playing from the blue tees. Overall the course was well maintained, even though some of the fairways had some patches that were dried out with brown spots. We really didn't mind as we were not looking for a championship caliber course this day. What was surprising and most memorable were the greens. Nicely trimmed, in great shape, about medium speed even after the sun dried them out, and lots of undulation (and some tricky multiple elevation changes) made for a really challenging day - combined with the longer play from the blues. Aside from the groups of high school golfers in front of us, the pace was good, and the course was relatively open and forgiving. The folks working at the course were super friendly and helpful - great customer service. A cold beer and sammich at Primanti's in Moon were on queue for afterwards as there really isn't any kind of bar or snack shop here - just machines - so keep this in mind as you head out. No alcohol permitted on this course.
