Details: Hi-Bore 9.5* Aldila NV65-S shaft
Purchase: purchased at an insurance sell-off for a golf store inventory -- paid $140... I was attracted to it because it is unlike any other driver made today (the shape/geometry of the clubhead) Pros: Give this club a chance... I recently purchased a Cleveland Hi-Bore 9.5* with a stiff Aldila NV65 shaft. I didn't really need it, but I was able to buy it rather cheaply at an insurance salvage inventory sell-off for a golf store (the club was not damaged at all). I bought it mainly because it is like no other driver on the market today (except the Hi-Bore XL now). The first time out to the range, I hit several balls with it and didn't like it at all -- I felt no sweet spot, and the ball took a fairly low trajectory (I realize that the NV shaft has a high kickpoint). This was not at all what I expected (I am a decent high-ball hitter as my current driver is a 9* with a low/mid-kick shaft). I put the club up for sale on eBay -- no takers in three tries. Hmmm...Was someone trying to tell me something? I read several reviews (again) on the club and realized that I was probably teeing the ball too high for the Hi-Bore. I have taken it out again twice now, teeing the ball low -- the top of the tee at about equator-level to a golf ball resting on the ground beside it. What a difference! Now I see the high-launch, penetrating ball flight that the club claims to give -- even with the low-trajectory shaft. Now it seems fairly difficult to hit a totally bad shot (unfortunately, the club doesn't swing itself). I have very good consistency with this driver; I think because the ball is teed so low -- this way there is not as much area on the clubface to %22miss%22 a shot. I am carrying my drives 260-270 with some roll on the end -- just a little longer that my current driver, but with tighter dispersion. (These guys who claim to hit the ball 300+ don't have the proper concept of distance... If you'll notice, most of them are high-handicappers, too -- yeah, right:-)...) Anyway, this driver will be staying in my bag for awhile. Now that the new Hi-Bore XL is available, these original models can be had for a song on eBay -- many shafts available as well. (Don't short-change the stock Fujikura -- I have one on my Nicklaus AirMax 440ML which is another fantastic club...) Remember, %22Tee it low and watch it go!%22 Cons: nothing, really Quality: excellent quality -- trusted manufacturer. Review Summary: Nice driver... I have learned that I cannot truly assess a particular club in only one range session. Be patient and try a club several times.

Purchase: Bought it off www.woot.com; 10/06; $200.00. Pros: Relatively straight, high launch, decent distance. Cons: The 'bore' is actually 'boring' in my opinion. The ball tends to balloon a bit if caught in the wind and restricts roll if the launch is too high. Stock shaft marginal. Quality: Great construction. Nice to look at, the depression in the clubhead is not all that distracting. Looks solid. Review Summary: Nice club for certain players. If you're looking to get the ball up in the air without reducing distance (and potentially adding) then this club is likely for you. The club rests nicely in a casual position. It has decent distance but in the wind, this is going to kill you as the trajectory is simply going to knock this guy down. I own a Cobra X-Speed and while a little less forgiving w/my shaft, it goes a bit further but the Hi-Bore does promote a straighter shot. If the wind's behind me, this thing is going 380 - 405 but if it's coming into me, the distance is significantly reduced. Good club, not great but I think Cleveland may be on to something with it's unique design. Needs a little bit more improvement/refinement. All the clubs we tried before this purchase were reg. flex, 10 or 10.5 loft.
Purchase: Bought this club at Golf Galaxy, paid the full $399.99. When my child looks at new clubs, she works in the simulator at GG, with every pro-line club they have. She will narrow the process down to a couple clubs, and work some more. This is how she has chosen every club purchased for the last 4 years. This time she hit Callaway X460 and Fusion, Ping G5, Titleist 905T, Nike SQ (standard and tour edition) with both the stock and Grafalloy shafts, Cleveland Launcher Comp, Taylor R7 425 and a leftover Quad. Pros: Her final two clubs came down to the Titleist 905T and the Hi-Bore. She hit both of these clubs with a little draw, very consistently. The Titleist produced a little more boring ball flight, but at a cost of about 10-12 yards compared to the Hi-Bore. Even when my daughter missed the shot a little bit, she was still consistently longer.
Visually, she does not like the big drivers, and with the narrow top-line, and cutout crown, it does not appear as large as it is. Cons: The only negative she has so far is another visual thing. At address, the club looks like it has draw bias. Not sure how true this is. Quality: Average Grip, good quality Fujikara shaft, nice and shiney on the bottom. Top of the club is a dull, flat black. I personally prefer a deep polished surface that will not easily pick up dirt or scuffs. Likewise, with some white cloth on the head cover, it will probably look a bit shabby after it falls into the mud a couple of times. Review Summary: Of available drivers on the market, my daughter hit this one the best. It fits HER game very well. I anticipate several 270+ yard drives this summer with this club.
