On 2007-02-15, 88888trader rated this Srixon W-506 a 5...(7636)

Details: 9.5 degree with after market Fujikura 757 (S), SST PUREd, Lamkin Dual Density Tortion Control Tour Grip.

Purchase: A family member is a teaching pro and purchased the driver for me P.U.D. for $80.00 and the shaft upgrade from Fujikura for $50. If you were to buy this club from a golf store expect to pay approx. $300, and the Fujikura shaft upgrade for about $240 installed with grip. The SST PUREd process for $40. (you should get all your irons, and woods SST PUREd, It makes a real difference in the feel and dispersion) www.sstpure.com
Pros: The driver head has a very classic look, and a slightly closed face (1 degree 9.5, 1.5 degrees 10.5) which will help those looking for a draw bias. I've heard the OEM shaft is quite good, I dont know if it is I had to put in a custon shaft with a low torque rating 2.5, because of my Nick Price type tempo. The Sound of a solid hit is a very strong CRACK, an off center hit has a higher pitch TING sound, this is nice as it lets you know how, and where you hit the ball on the face. I have increased my length with this driver by at least 7-12 yards without swinging any harder. The reason is because the Srixon Driver head produces a mid/high ball flight with dramaticly lower spin rates. It really seems like the ball just leaps off the face and keeps sailing on a very strong flight path. Off center hits are still VERY strong, a power fade flys at least 5% further than my Titleist 905T with the Fujikura 757. The Head size is 450cc. Why they didnt splurge on the other 10cc's I dont know, but you cant really tell anyway. I'm a 5.6 HCP now, and I LOVE THIS DRIVER!!!! Low HCP's will absolutely gain distance, Strong Mid HCP's 10-15 will like the extra distance, but may suffer from offcenter hits. You will gain more distance from this driver on those off center hits.
Cons: The driver head is 450cc's, don't know why they didnt just go to 460cc's but Im sure there is a reason. This drive isnt for a high handicapper. If you miss the center you'll know it, feel it, and pay a small price in distance. I'd say if you're a stong 10 HCP or better, you'll love it. If you're not, there are better drivers out there for you
Quality: The construction of the head is fantastic. Nice sole design, classic look, slightly closed at address, and no dramatic paint or alignment marks on the crown.

Review Summary: 0-10 HCP, absolutely will love this driver hands down. 10-15 HCP will benefit from the increased distance on off center hits, and will like the extra yds from flush hits. 15+ HCP there are easier drivers to hit...I'd suggest finding a 460cc, game improvement driver like the Nike Sasquach, or Cobra drivers.

On 2006-11-17, semipro rated this Srixon W-506 a 5...(7522)

Details: 9.5 degree. Stock stiff shaft.

Purchase: Bought it for US$150 on ebay.
Pros: Super forgiving and the ball jumps off the face!!! Previously, I have used TM R7 Quad TP, Titleist 983K, and Nike Sasquatch Tour (all w/ custom shaft). The stock shaft on this driver is better than most stock shaft on other models (i.e., Aldila NV, Grafalloy Prolauch). I'll probably switch the shaft to a UST V2 since it's been the best for my swing (better than the stock Fujikura Speeder 757 on the R7 TP). I can't believe this driver didn't make any headline in the U.S. golf industry (other than the fact that Jim Furyk uses the same driver w/ a UST Proforce shaft). I have tried most, if not all, premier brands (Titleist 905R/S/T, Cleveland Composite, all TaylorMade drivers, Nike, Ping) and can confidently say this driver is at the top of the list. Srixon is the No. 1 golf mfg. in Japan and I use Srixon forged irons as well (switched from Mizuno).
Cons: More professional headcover would have been better, not just a stocking type (TM R7 TP has the best headcover).
Quality: Top notch.

Review Summary: You will not regret it. Get it cheap on ebay since not many people know about this driver in the U.S.

On 2006-07-20, Joe from Tampa rated this Srixon W-506 a 5...(7286)

Details: OEM regular-flex shaft. 9.5-degree loft

Purchase: I thought my TaylorMade R5 was a good club, but just couldn't shake the feeling of never knowing when a big slice or pull-hook was going to jump up and bite me. So I went to an Edwin Watts and asked the salesman to help me demo a bunch of drivers. We took five drivers (G5, Launcher, Hi-Bore, Fusion, and Staff) to the simulator. The only one I felt comfortable with was the Hi-Bore, but it was too much money. As I was walking out, I went past a box that had Srixon W-506 drivers in it. I have the Srixon wedges, and like them, so I thought I'd give it a try. It took me about five swings to realize that this was the driver for me. I bought it for $299 at the store (I believe in paying more to a retailer who helps you).
Pros: This club is sneaky long and most importantly, very accurate. I can make a fairly aggressive swing and the ball stays right on line most of the time. Every round I play with this club increases my confidence in it. And that's golden. I was concerned that the OEM shaft would be another of those 'buy the club, reshaft immediately' pieces of junk, but this is a high-quality shaft. I have a fairly smooth swing with about a 90mph clubhead speed. I can feel the clubhead throughout the swing, and the shaft unloads with a very fluid feel through the ball. Srixon did its homework and got this head/shaft combo right. The club looks plain, but handsome, and alignment is easy. If you are looking for a new driver, do yourself a favor and try the W-506. I think this driver will be staying in my bag for a long, long time.
Cons: Nothing I don't like about it.
Quality: Feels very solid. Srixon put its technology on the inside, where it counts. The proprietary 'Power Body Construction' seems to work exactly as advertised, making shots 'stick' to the clubface just a bit longer. They set up the sweet-spot to be an ellipse that goes from low-heel to high-toe, which is exactly where most mid-handicapa amateurs like me tend to miss. Very smart.

Review Summary: This is a driver that every mid-handicap player should who is looking for a new driver should test. I'm really glad I found it!

On 2006-05-21, jax rated this Srixon W-506 a 5...(6941)

Details: 10.5* SV3004 regular 4.2 shaft

Purchase: Aquired at www.teestedet.dk. 2.500,- dkr. (375 USD.), including 12 Z Urs balls and a Srixon cap. Quite a bargain in Denmark!
Pros: After taking 5 different 2006 Drivers to the Range for testing (Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade and Cleveland) the Srixon W-506 was without any comparison the sweetest. Although very similar to the Callaway, it was 'easier' to hit straight shots and with lovely fade and draw control. It has added about 35 meters to my drive and on the first 18 holes with it I entered the 70's club!
Cons: Nothing at all! Although the headcover is a bit ugly, but who cares when you're packing that kind of heat...
Quality: All the way up there! A great impactsound and the regular shaft (came from the Warbirds metal shaft) is quite stiff and very responsive. Also a great looking club, with an absolute minimum of logo marking!

Review Summary: A brilliant club and worth any penny (oere..)! Maybe one should have a look at Srixons fairway clubs!?
