On 2005-03-18, Dan Powers rated this Acer XDS Fairway Woods a 5...(5217)

Purchase: These are the older Acer XDS model fairway woods that were produced about four or five years ago. This particular style is a clone of the Callaway Steelheads. I had looked all over the place for these and stumbled across a 4 (16 degrees) and 7 (22 degrees) wood at Tom Wishon Golf's online store. The heads are actually listed under the ladies section. I managed to pick up both of them for 11 bucks a piece.
Pros: There's really not much to dislike about these clubs. The design is a close to a Callaway as is legally allowed. They are the perfect size and shape. It's a great look at setup and quite the confidence boost. I am able to work the ball off the clubface, and am very pleased with the versatility the clubs have shown from a variety of lies. The compact head design really feels and looks like you will make the best contact possible.
Cons: I really have no major complaints about the clubs. They have proven to be as versatile off the tee as they are from the fairway or rough.
Quality: I have building my own clubs for a number of years, so I was responsible for this assembly as well. Obviously, I won't be complaining about the construction quality or apperance. If you are interested in the specs, I used True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts at a S flex and standard measurement. Rounded ferrules and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips. I have really become accustomed to that style of grip and find that hitting them with some fine grit sandpaper every month or so really brings the tackiness out in them.

Review Summary: In my opinion this is a great fairway wood style. It's compact, versitle, and classic. You can work the ball with the clubs, or really just step up and pound it. It's a look that really helps to inspire confidence and it will show through in your scores. If you are looking for a value priced "old style" head design, you owe it to yourself to check these clubs out.
