Purchase: About 4 months ago, my 13 year old son announced he would like to learn how to golf. Only having dad's 40 year old McGregors with "wood" woods, that promptly started to fall apart upon hitting them, I decided to start investing in somewthing that ywould last the rest of my lifetime. Coincidentally, and while at a local driving range, an old timer asked if I would like to try his Adams original fairway wood, which I did. I liked it enough to start investing in the Adams products. Wanting to build 2 sets of clubs, I first purchased an Adams 410 Driver. Not having ever hit drivers, it took some getting used to. The second club was a Redline 460. It was advertised as the max for COR and size of head was great. On-line I paid $150.
Pros: The club is about an inch longer in length than the 410 and of course, a larger head. In talking with some pros, the head size doesn't much matter for distance, but the club speed does. At 50 years old, my club speed isn't much, but with some work in extending the back and follow-through swing, today I did a comparison. In a driving range in Reno today, I put the 2 through the paces. Actually, both reacted amazingly accurate. My drives were straight and true. The difference in club length was a bit to overcome. Today, I finially hit the sweet spot several times on the Redline and really connected. The ball traveled as far as my eyes could see. I wanted to race down the range to follow the ball to see how far it really went. It was, by far the farthest i have ever hit a ball. Also, and with many new clubs, it is a rather pretty black-headed beast that I would proudly compare with the big bertha's out there.
Cons: As previously stated, when having used a 410 with a shorter shaft, it will take some time to either choke up a bit or take the time to learn this club.
Quality: The Adams Golf company has taken time to design a quality club and at a much lower cost than the big boys. Black in color, it glows in your hands. The shaft is Fujikura design and the grip is the normal rubber stock. Its light, as most titamium "woods", which allows for great club speed.
Review Summary: For the occasional golfer, this is the best club for the best price. Forgiveness and distance is unsurpassed. I would gladly go against any Callaway, Cleveland, or Taylor-Made in a one-one-one comp.
