On 2007-01-07, Mr. Analytical rated this Adams Redline 460cc Dual 9.5* a 5...(7579)
Details: Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue shaft - stiff flex.
Purchase: I'm a budget golfer. I can afford to pay the big bucks, but why should I if I can find an affordable option that performs as well as my golfing buddies' expensive equipment. The Adams Redline 460cc Dual weighted driver fits my philosophy.
After much research, I decided I wanted to give the Adams driver a try. I found a new one on e-bay for $99 plus $17 shipping. The cheapest I had found one in the retail outlets, including online, was $199.
Pros: It performs great. I'm typically in the 260 yard range on a solid hit with my previous $50 John Daly 540cc illegal driver (regular flex). Mis-hits were in the 220-240 range.
I've played two rounds with the Adams Dual. The new driver moved that sweet-hit distance out to about 290. Mis-hits are still going about 260.
My previous driver had a 10* loft. This one is 9.5*, but it launched higher than my previous driver. I've compensated by teeing the ball up about a quarter inch lower.
People complain about the 'aluminum bat' sound of the club, but it isn't that bad. Definitely noticeable though and a good indicator of a sweet-spot hit.
People also complain about the difficulty of the tight, thick headcover. Here's the secret for easily installing the beast: the bottom of the headcover has two protrusions, just like tabs. Grab one in each hand and pull over the club. Slips right on.
Cons: The Adams grip was too small for my hands. But then again I always change the grip on every club I own as soon as I buy it. I prefer Lamkin Crossline Midsize grips on my irons and Winn Excel Oversize on my driver and fairway woods.
The club shaft is long too (46 inches). It isn't a drawback, and definitely contributes to the added distance of the club, but you'll notice the length as soon as you put it in your hands. That length takes a little getting used to, but one trip to the range and you're good to go.
Quality: It is an attractive club due to the black composite top. It does not appear as big as other 460cc clubs I've held. It has a classic shape that is familiar.
Review Summary: The quality, value, and performance matches the more expensive expensive clubs. The Adams Redline 460cc Dual driver is an outstanding value.
