On 2002-10-10, steve rated this Adams Tight Lies ST a 4...(658)

Purchase: I read a glowing, online review (dated 2001) of this club and took the opportunity to hit it indoors several times at a local retailer. I purchased the 13* 3-wood for $99 (originally priced at $239 last year). After playing with the 3-wood for several weeks, I subsequently purchased the 17* 4-wood and the 22* 7-wood (brand new) on eBay for $69 each!
Pros: First, and foremost, I like the True Temper BiMatrx Rxi Regular flex shaft on all the clubs. Though I have a higher swing speed (95-100mph) than the R flex rating calls for, I find the Rxi much to my liking. The steel tip on the end of the graphite Rxi is how the club gots its name: ST. (Cost alone on this shaft is about $40.) The sole weighting of the head makes the ST an easy club to get the ball airborne with. The sound off the face is a metallic "thwack"--not at all tinny; just solid and sweet. Distances are very good. Though I've hit other fairway woods longer, the ST seems to provide a tighter shot dispersion that helps to keep me out of trouble, saving me strokes.
Cons: The clubhead looks a tad "boxy" from the face; but looks good at address. Though the low profile, shorter face gives me confidence with tighter lies, I have to be careful not to sky the shot when the ball is sitting up high in the rough. For tee shots I barely tee the ball up.
Quality: Construction is first rate. The dark blues of the clubhead and Rxi shaft match well; the ST looks lean and all business. The grips are black Crosslines; the headcovers are high quality.

Review Summary: Though considered a forgiving fairway wood, the ST clubhead and BiMatrx shaft combination (in my opinion) is probably more suited for the better player. Again, the Rxi plays stiffer than it's rated. Considering the money spent, the Adams ST fairway woods were an excellent investment. I find the clubs top rate; simply sweet and crisp at impact!
